And this year, they’ve even made it all the way to New York Fashion Week. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ECKHAUS LATTA (@eckhaus_latta) That’s right, on Saturday high-end fashion brand Eckhaus Latta debuted their new collection of Ugg boots. Of course, they weren’t the kind you might shove on with your jeans on a chilly day: instead, the famous shoes have been given a high-fashion revamp, making them almost unrecognisable at first glance. Notably, the most significant difference in the shoe is that instead of its usual curved (some might say ‘potato’-style) front, it has been given a square toe. Prior to the launch, co-founder Mike Eckhaus told Vogue: ‘Every time we have the opportunity to make shoes, we want to make them with a square toe,’ which explains the decision. Getty Images You might be wondering how and why a cool, young and very ‘artsy’ brand like Eckhaus Latta, who’s last big project was a pop-up inside New York’s iconic Whitney Museum, decided to collaborate with Ugg. ‘We were approached by Uggs to do the project this summer, but I think it came out of them seeing our Whitney exhibition,’ said Zoe Latta in an interview with The Cut. Getty Images Eckhaus added: ‘I think it’s also because we’re bicoastal and work often out of Los Angeles — they’re based in Santa Barbara — and they were really excited to work with a brand that had roots on the West Coast as well. It spoke to their language of “California heritage.”’ Eckhaus Latta isn’t the first luxury brand to launch their own take on the Ugg boot; Sacai, Y/Project, and Heron Preston have all done so recently, and judging by the welcome reception these high-end Uggs are receiving, the Ugg could end up becoming the new It shoe for 2019. Who’d have thought it?
