Dior wrote that his dresses, ‘gave the bust prominence and breadth, at the same time respecting the natural curve of the shoulders’ 1950s Dior’s A/W 54 collection was all about the ‘H Line’ – a hip-based silhouette. Gowns were cut high on the chest with draping under the waist to create ‘a long bust resting on the hips’.
