YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Wardrobe Confidential Actress comedienne and mum of three Sally Phillips talks about her wardrobe staples By You Magazine - July 7, 2017 Sponsored by DYLON Colour Catcher This week, Miranda, Smack the Pony and Bridget Jones star Sally Phillips opens the closet in the west London home she shares with husband Andrew and their sons, Olly, 12, nine-year-old Luke, and five-year-old Tom. Sally has loads of silk shirts in bright colours and patterns – they feel luxurious but are surprisingly easy-care, and machine wash on a low temperature STYLE SHORTHAND Before I had the boys, I’d spend hours browsing vintage markets and loved shopping. I simply don’t have time to do that now, so I have developed a simple shorthand for everyday wear that makes it look like I have made an effort, when I really haven’t. I have loads of silk shirts in bright colours and patterns, from Equipment, Really Wild, & Other Stories and more – they feel luxurious but are surprisingly easy-care and machine was on a low temperature. Sally says she can wear her MiH pinafore to an audition then cook the children tea in it PERFECT PINAFORE Pinafore dresses can look a little matronly, but this by MiH nips in at the waist and the button-front gives a more stylish look. I generally tend to have a work wardrobe and a mum wardrobe, because I can’t get away from clothes being about costume. Everything I wear is about a different facet of my life, but this is one of the few pieces I can genuinely wear to an audition then cook the kids’ dinner in. It looks like I’ve made a bit of an effort, but I don’t care if the boys throw up on it because it’s cotton and washes like a dream. THE BOTTOM LINE Most days, I wear a silk shirt with a pair of super-stretchy DL1961 jeans, which are the only brand I’ve found that fit my 5′ 4″ frame perfectly. They are brilliant because they don’t give me builder’s bum when I bend down. I have them in classic denim, dark indigo cotton and a black pair, which are still intense black after endless washes. STARLET CHIC Susannah’s dresses are really evocative of another era, and morph you into a 1950s movie starlet. They are incredibly powerful pieces that create a certain mood when you wear them: I love that. I have a thing for big flowers and bold botanical prints: my off-the-shoulder floral ‘Dita’ dress is incredibly transformative, and I have a ruffle-front silk shirt dress with heart-shaped leaves that instantly makes me feel fabulous. Sally says she doesn’t want cheap, throwaway clothes, but pieces she will cherish STYLE STATEMENT I get overwhelmed by too much choice when I’m shopping, but there is an amazing boutique in Richmond, London, where it feels like everything is edited to my taste. Feather& Stitch sell so many labels I like, such as Essential, DL1961 and Danish designer, Charlotte Sparre, whose tops are fab. I met her on set once and she has taught me a lot about ethical fashion production and sustainability. I don’t want cheap, throwaway clothes: I want pieces I will cherish and still love when I’m eighty.
