YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Dear NHS The new charity book written by 100 famous faces By You Magazine - April 20, 2020 A moving new tome is on the way that will see a host of celebrities pen heartfelt essays and thank you letters to the NHS. Celebrities including Dame Emma Thompson, Dawn French, Stephen Fry, Fearne Cotton and Joanna Lumley, to name a few, all jumped at the chance to contribute to the charity book, all profits from which will go directly to NHS Charities Together (which supports NHS staff and volunteers) and The Lullaby Trust, which helps parents who’ve lost babies and young children. Getty Images Set to be published on 9 July (but available to pre-order now), Dear NHS: 100 Stories to Say Thank You will be a thank you letter to the UK’s National Health Service, featuring personal essays from an array of high profile celebs and writers who wanted to put pen to paper to show their heartfelt gratitude for the amazing and brave work that the people of the NHS carry out every day. Curated and edited by Adam Kay, author of bestselling memoir This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor, other household names planning to contribute to the book include Emilia Clarke, Paul McCartney, Jameela Jamil, Jonathan Ross, Naomie Harris and Sue Perkins. And acclaimed authors such as Candice Carty-Willians, Juno Dawson, Caitlin Moran, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Reni Eddo-Lodge and Dolly Alderton are also set to write personal essays to add the collection. Thrilled to announce DEAR NHS: 100 LETTERS TO SAY THANK YOU. It's the most extraordinary book of personal stories: Paul McCartney, Emilia Clarke, Peter Kay, Stephen Fry, Dawn French, Trevor McDonald… Out July 9th, pre-order now – 100% profit to charity https://t.co/imjyCubYKW pic.twitter.com/0nKHh7GNp7 - Adam Kay (@amateuradam) April 17, 2020 With Adam at the helm, we can safely assume the book will be equal parts tear jerking and hilarious, just like his own memoir of life on the frontline of the NHS. The junior doc-turned-comedian and author took to Twitter to share the exciting news with an image of a mock-up cover (the real cover is yet to be revealed) and a list of all the names contributing to the book, which we’re sure you’ll agree is an absolutely stellar line up and reads like a who’s who of the celeb world – from comedians, writers and sports stars to actors, actresses and musicians. A simple accompanying caption read: ‘Thrilled to announce DEAR NHS: 100 LETTERS TO SAY THANK YOU. It’s the most extraordinary book of personal stories: Paul McCartney, Emilia Clarke, Peter Kay, Stephen Fry, Dawn French, Trevor McDonald… Out July 9th, pre-order now – 100% profit to charity’. Getty Images Speaking about the book in a press release, Adam said he had been ‘blown away by the number of people who have been in touch to share their amazing stories.’ He continued: ‘I hope that the book, and the money it raises for charity, will in some way manage to say thank you to the heroes who are putting our lives before their own every day.’ Anna Valentine, from the book’s publisher Orion, has said: ‘By turns deeply moving, hilarious, hopeful and impassioned, these stories together become a love letter to the NHS and the 1.5 million people who work within it. It is a privilege to be able to publish a book that gives something back to those who already give so much.’ We absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on a copy and gobble it up in one sitting.
