MILLY WEARS DRESS, £25.50, Boden CREATE AN OUTDOOR FOUR-POSTER FOR THE FRAME, YOU WILL NEED Hammer Eight softwood fence posts (from most DIY stores) measuring 180cm high x 8cm diameter Wood saw 6cm crosshead screws Drill or screwdriver Cable ties HOW TO First measure the length and width of your day bed. Cut the fence posts to size. You will need four 180cm posts (for the uprights); two posts 20cm longer than the length of your day bed (for the front and back of the top frame), and two posts 20cm longer than the width of your day bed (for the sides of the top frame). Hammer the four upright posts into the ground – at least 60cm deep – at each corner of the day bed to secure them in position. Lift the front and back posts for the top frame on to the uprights, securing them in position with cable ties before screwing into place. Repeat with the side posts of the top frame – positioning them on top of the front and back frame posts. For additional support you can use cable ties to secure the upright posts to the bottom of your day bed. FOR THE AWNING, YOU WILL NEED Cotton canvas (cut to the same length and width of the sides of the four-poster frame) Twine or string An eyelet kit HOW TO Position the canvas over the frame. Use a pencil to mark the four corners of the top panel and the four corners of the side panels just inside the poles. This is where you will need eyelets. Add an eyelet to each four corners of the canvas panels. Use string to tie the awning to the top frame.
