Cecelia’s follow-up book, Postscript, was released on 19 September 2019 – six months after it was first announced by the Irish author on Twitter. Rex Features ‘I have BIG NEWS!’ she wrote to her followers in March. ‘I’ve written the sequel to PS I LOVE YOU – titled POSTSCRIPT. POSTSCRIPT will be published September 19th in the UK & Ireland. I hope you’ll welcome back Holly… & Gerry… & that reading it will be as emotional for you as it was for me.’ Now, it has been revealed that film company Alcon Entertainment have bought the rights to create a second movie, and Hilary Swank has already signed up. Speaking to Irish broadcaster Ryan Tubridy on his RTÉ Radio 1, Cecelia explained that the Hollywood star, who played the lead in the first film, was the first person to reach out when she heard she was writing a sequel. ‘One of the first people to email me when she heard the news was Hilary Swank,’ she told the radio host. ‘She was so excited, she wanted to read the book and she said, “I would love to support you in any way, shape or form”. Then she read the book and she said, “I want to make this movie”.’ Author Cecelia Ahern announced the news on Twitter. Image: Rex Features But don’t get too excited just yet. While the author revealed that a movie is definitely happening, she also pointed out that there is a long way to go before filming starts. ‘We don’t have a director or a screenwriter or any of that, nothing’s been announced yet, but the movie’s happening! I’m delighted,’ she added. PS I Love You was the writer’s first novel, and was published in 2004. It reached number one bestseller status in several countries, including the UK, United States, Germany and the Netherlands, and has sold a staggering 1.14 million copies to date.
