YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty Experts say this is the most ‘ hygienic’ haircut to have post-lockdown By You Magazine - June 19, 2020 We are hopefully mere weeks away from being able to enter hair salons again. While nothing is set in stone, many hairdressers are hoping to open in July, but our experience in the chair will most likely be a whole lot different this time around. It is expected that most hair salons will have to follow stringent social distancing rules, with staff and customers required to wear PPE of some sort. Getty Images It is also unclear as of yet whether hairdressers will be able to offer a full range of services, as the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) has suggested that treatment times should be kept to a minimum during this time. One top stylist has recommended sticking to a much shorter style as these measures are in place, as it is perhaps quicker to dry and style, and thus, more hygienic. Tim Hartley, former director at Vidal Sassoon, believes people should consider getting a short, 1920s-style bob in order to keep things simple and safe. Getty Images ‘We have to think about maximising hygiene,’ he told The Telegraph. ‘The sooner the long tresses of yesterday are dispensed with, the more hygienic it will be for us all.’ He notes that longer hair requires more time in the salon, and in particular, more time under a hairdryer. In theory, having lengthy blow-dries could spread germs around a salon for longer, and more widely. He also says that long hair touches more, such as face covering and clothings, and thus is more of a contamination risk. Getty Images It’s not clear whether these suggestions carry weight, but if you’ve been thinking about going short, now could be the time! Shorter hair, as well as potentially being more ‘hygienic’ due to less time spent in the salon, can feel healthier, as well as looking super stylish and chic.
