This is why face masks are now compulsory on public transport as of Monday 15 June in England and the World Health Organisation has updated its guidelines to recommend that everyone should wear fabric face masks in public areas where social distancing may not always be possible and transmission could happen, such as in shops and workplaces. Getty Images NHS and key workers have obviously been heroically wearing face masks day in, day out for some time now, but with more of us now preparing to wear them for shopping trips and commuting, this has resulted in a surge of a particular kind of beauty tutorial on YouTube. Namely, how to do face mask make-up – particularly, how to achieve ultimate staying power and prevent smudging due to prolonged face mask wear. Getty Images Collectively yielding 1.8 million views on YouTube, this type of beauty tutorial is being uploaded by some of the biggest names in beauty vlogging. Manny Mua aka Manny Gutierrez is one of them and we love his super helpful and practical tips for ensuring make-up stays put for as long as possible. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ?Manny Gutierrez (@mannymua733) A few of Manny’s top tips for achieving his ‘flawless mask routine’ are: Start by using a super hydrating moisturiser to combat the amount of powder that’s going to be used later on in the routine to create the mattifying, staying effect. Then, somewhat controversially, he applies a light layer of translucent setting powder to lock in the moisture and create a barrier between the moisturiser and the make-up to stop them from mixing. Next, he spritzes his face with a setting spray to really lock in the moisture and provide that all-important longevity to the make-up that’s going to be applied – Manny uses the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. Next up is primer – Manny suggests using a particular sticky primer to really grip your foundation. When it comes to choosing a foundation, Manny suggests choosing a full-coverage, long-wearing product – no sheer coverage here when longevity is the name of the game. He says Estée Lauder’s Double Wear is ‘fantastic for longevity’, as is Mac’s Pro Longwear Foundation. Use a brush to deposit the most amount of product, focusing particularly on areas the mask will rub most such as the nose and cheeks. After that, go in with a sponge or beauty blender to really press the make-up into the skin and leave it streak-free. Another of his tips is to apply a setting powder with a damp sponge, again paying particular attention to the nose, where the mask will rub most.
