Named after Alexa Chung, the original 2010 Alexa bag was inspired by vintage satchels and Alexa’s very own carefree confidence and timeless style. Reimagined for 2020, however, the design was given a modern update and proved a hit once again. Mulberry Now, the two powerhouses have teamed up again to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary by launching Mulberry x Alexa Chung, the latest chapter in Mulberry Editions (a series of limited-editions capsule collections). Invited to put her spin on Mulberry’s design DNA, Alexa has designed two-star styles; the Big Guy, a roomy shoulder bag that can be carried all day and goes with everything, and the Little Guy, a compact, elegant clutch that is ideal for evenings. Alexa Chung – The Big Guy, £1095, Mulberry Inspired by the style of ’70s icons like Charlotte Rampling and Laura Hutton, coupled with Alexa’s own personal style, the bags feature chain straps and a boxy silhouette in colours ranging from classic, earthy shades to peppy green and blue tones. Alexa Chung – The Little Guy, £895, Mulberry Launching alongside the two new styles is also an edit of complementary Alexa bags in the all-new colour palette and 70s-inspired treatments that are a part of the latest Mulberry Editions collection. The Alexa, £1395, Mulberry Commenting on the collaboration, Alexa said; ‘I thought it was a great, quite rare opportunity. I never expected to be invited to actually design my own Mulberry bag, which is really a dream come true… The first Alexa was named after me and getting to interpret it in my own way is even better. I wanted to make sure that it would endure, become a future classic.’ Though the collection isn’t pocket change, the original Alexa satchel is one of Mulberry’s most coveted and iconic designs – a true testament to the timelessness of such a beautiful bag.
