Or just fancy brushing up on your vino knowledge so you can impress your friends when we can eventually go out to restaurants and bars once more? There are loads of wine courses out there that will teach you everything you need to know about the white, red and bubbly stuff (and everything in between), but they’ll likely set you back a fair sum of money in the region of £400 or more. Getty Images That’s where Aldi comes in with their Aldi wine school, or Aldiploma. First launched in 2019, the six-module online course teaches you everything you need to know, from understanding the language of wine to how to properly taste it. And now they’ve added two new modules to the course – ‘a guide to new world wines’ and ‘wine and food matching’. So even if you’ve completed the course previously, there’s now more to discover within the Aldi wine school. Getty Images As with the first six modules, the new modules are taught by wine critic, journalist and TV presenter Jilly Goolden and Mistress of Wine Sam Caporn, who says: ‘Aldi is known for offering great quality wines at affordable prices with many award-winning bottles available for under £5. But sometimes, deciding which one to choose can be overwhelming. That’s why the Aldi Wine School, with its jargon free courses, hints and tips, is perfect for giving customers the confidence to try new things – we hope that it helps to spark a sense of fun and excitement when it comes to learning about wine!’ View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sarah Turner (@theunmumsymum) Instagrammer The Unmumsy Mum has given the Aldiploma a test drive, and says: ‘I usually feel bamboozled by the labels in the wine aisle and pick up a Shiraz out of habit, simply because I know I like it. ‘The Aldiploma course bought me sheer joy in swapping phonics and fronted adverbials for a bit of grown-up homelearning. Since completing these bitesize modules, I’ve discovered I also like Malbec and I’ve now got the confidence in trying to pick out what I can smell and taste in the glass. I can’t recommend it enough – it’s easy to follow and fascinating!’ You can sign up to Aldi’s free online wine school here.
