YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn is working on a gripping new TV series By You Magazine - January 30, 2019 Gillian Flynn is the reigning queen of female-led psychological thrillers. From her 2012 best-seller Gone Girl, to her incredible follow-ups Sharp Objects (which was given a TV adaptation by HBO last year), Dark Places and Widows, which too was given a star-studded screen adaptation in 2018. Getty Images It’s safe to say that the world simply can’t get enough of her twisted storytelling and luckily we won’t have to as she’s back with yet another puzzling TV series. The big bosses at Amazon have enlisted the author to work on a new drama titled, Utopia. The drama is based on the British series of the same name created by Channel 4 in 2013. According to Variety, Gillian first pitched the idea to HBO back in 2014 alongside Gone Girl director David Fincher, who was set to direct. Unfortunately, it never happened at the time, but it is now back on in full force. What is the plot Those who watched the original Channel 4 show will know that Utopia followed five strangers who were pursued by an organization that was willing to kill them to get the original manuscript of the cult graphic novel ‘The Utopia Experiments.‘ Similarly, Gillian’s HBO version will be based on a group of young adults who meet online and end up being tracked by a deep-state organisation. The first season, which will be made up of nine episodes will see the group discover a cult underground novel before finding multiple conspiracy theories that may be real. It is then up to them to save the world. Who is the cast According to The Hollywood Reporter, American Honey star Sasha Lane is the first person to be cast. Sasha is set to play the role of Jessica Hype, a character who has been described as ‘tough and feral after a life on the run from a mysterious and dangerous group.’ Getty Images Speaking of the casting, Gillian said: ‘As I’ve been writing Utopia and trying to imagine the actor who could possibly embody Jessica Hyde, Sasha Lane has constantly kicked her way into my mind.’ She continued: ‘She has the shapeshifting ability to feel at once raw, unpredictable and a little unnerving while also making you want to wrap your arms around her. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her play this utterly unique character.’ When will it air No air date has been released for the show as it is still in production – but we will certainly be keeping out eyes and ears out for more information.
