But one thing even the Queen can get on board with is the power of good tea and toast. Getty Images It’s true what they say, it really is the simple things in life that go a long way. And in this case, the simple thing is tea and toast according to Her Majesty, who spoke out about the power of food to bring communities together during a royal engagement on Tuesday night. The Queen’s comment was made as she attended a celebration for the contribution of faith groups to British life at Buckingham Palace, where she welcomed 160 guests personally with a hand shake and a warm welcome. While expressing that she hoped the guests, all of whom were from different faith groups, would connect and form new friendships, the 93-year-old monarch reported hinted that food was a great way to do so, saying: ‘a bit of toast and tea goes a long way’. The night saw members from the British Christian, Muslim, Jew and other religious groups come together including Nighat Khan from New Vision 4 Women in London, an organisation that enables women from different backgrounds meet regularly and talk about their lives over some food. Getty Images Speaking to MailOnline, Khan said about the Queen: ‘She wanted to know all about our projects and the challenges the women we work with face.’ She added: ‘She said “a bit of tea and toast can go a long way”. It’s very British isn’t it?’ The comment came as she greeted another attendee, Anna Dyson, a Jewish mother who runs a social enterprise cafe in Leeds called ToastLoveCoffee. According to reports, the Queen was thrilled to see the women mingle and at one point, she even said ‘I can hear all the talking, I hope it’s going well!’ Isn’t she adorable?
