They also tend to have the most delays and well, it’s true what they say about getting what you pay for. Getty Images But with endless options, which airlines should we be looking to for the best overall travel experience? According to this year’s annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, the answer to that is Qatar Airways. The middle eastern airline has been crowned the best in the world, beating previous winner Singapore Airlines to the title. However, it isn’t the first time the swanky airline has won the accolade. In fact, 2019 marks Qatar Airways’ fifth time as the best airline in the world, having also won in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011. Following the win, Qatar’s Group CEO Akbar Al Bakar said in a statement: ‘Becoming the first airline to be named as ‘Airline of the Year’ for the fifth time is a landmark achievement.’ World s Best Airlines for 2019 1. Thai Airways Alamy Stock Photos The airline also came out on top in the awards for World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat and Best Airline in the Middle East, beating popular middle eastern competitors Emirates and Etihad. Despite coming in second in the 2019 list, Singapore airline was honoured with the best airline title last year. However, the country does remain as the destination with the best airport in the world for the seventh year running. The popular airport is known as the prime transfer spot, with over 100 airlines providing connectivity to 400 cities worldwide and handling about 7,400 flights every week – but that isn’t all it is good for. Describing itself as much ‘more than an airport’, the £951m development features endless attractions including impressive art installations and sculptures, a butterfly park, cactus garden (with actual palm trees) and a cinema. Not wonder it is the best!
