The season was led by Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman, who took on the role of Queen Elizabeth following Claire Foy’s performance in the first two seasons. But with the show set for yet another time jump in the fifth season, the cast is once again set to change – including the Queen. So, who will be following in Olivia’s brilliant footsteps? Netflix One thing’s for sure, they’ll have pretty big boots to fill which of course, Netflix was fully aware of when casting. That’s probably why they have reportedly picked the incredible Imelda Staunton for the fifth part of the award-winning drama. Coleman impressed fans in the latest season which saw the plot thicken in the complex life of Queen Elizabeth II. However, her reign will be coming to an end as the upcoming fourth season comes to a close. She will then hand over to Staunton who will take us on the rest of the royal journey and the same change will occur for other characters on the show, though no other names have been confirmed as of yet. Getty Images 64-year-old Staunton, who recently played Lady Bagshaw in the Downton Abbey movie, is said to have been approached by producers for the role and will portray the queen while she is in her sixties. In the past, she has received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for both her performance in Harry Potter and Mike Leigh’s 2004 blockbuster Vera Drake. Perhaps her new gig in The Crown will bag her even more accolades? We’ve got every faith in her. Earlier this week, we reported that real-life royal Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is a big fan of The Crown – so much so that she already has the perfect person in mind to play her, should the writers ever want to include her in upcoming seasons. Naturally, it’s a fellow redhead as she apparently wants Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson to do the honours. We can see it – can you?
