Of course, we were saddened by the news that it would draw the all-star cast show to an end, as creators hinted that it would be the final season – but now we’re not so sure that that’s the case. Rex Features Nicole Kidman, who plays one of the key protagonists in the series alongside Reese Witherspoon, recently revealed that a third season of Big Little Lies could be on the cards after all. Answering a question from Lorraine on the red carpet of the GQ Men of the Year Awards, Nicole admitted: ‘Reese and I just spoke literally two days ago and we were going, “Yeah…” I mean we were both saying it’s one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. It’s definitely not right now, but we’re definitely exploring it.’ This isn’t the first time the actress has revealed that she and Reese are interested in a third season of the show. Speaking to EW about the season two finale, Nicole said: ‘It’s so important not to discuss all of the intricacies of this, because if we do a season three, there’s going to be things that will be explained.’ Much to our delight, she continued: ‘It’s probably better to allow just a little mystery. I know the voracious appetite for knowledge and to leave no stone unturned. But I’m always going to fight for just a little bit… there can be a few mysteries and secrets held intact.’ Rex Features Meanwhile, Reese added: ‘I totally agree! If there are conversations still to be had, I think that’s really what determines if we can tell a season three. Is it as good as season one and two? Does the audience still have questions? Do we have answers?’ So, could the women really make it happen or is the decision out of their control? ‘It’s a collaboration. We work as a group,’ said Nicole. ‘We are incredibly tight; we talk to each other, and we are on each other’s side. ‘So, we will decide as a group. We listen to the way in which people react because so much of TV is a very immediate medium. Every single person who has made this has said this show is bigger than any single one of us.’ Well, we’ve got our fingers crossed!
