YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty This Japanese tech skincare brand is being hailed as the wrinkle-busting must-have By You Magazine - September 30, 2019 When you’re investing in skincare, it’s all about finding those really effective products; the ones that make a noticeable difference in the mirror, and have your friends nosing through your bathroom cabinet to find out your secret. We’re talking skincare that combines the best natural ingredients, with the oomph of cutting-edge technology to really turbo-charge the benefits. Shiseido That’s where Shiseido are making skincare strides way past the competition, but why? Well, it’s a combination of 147-years of Japanese tradition using nature and science to bolster the power of your regime. So, here, two professional skincare gurus give us the lowdown on the five wonder ingredients you should look out for – and we reveal how Shiseido has harnessed them in their products… For radiance and resilience … Reishi Mushrooms & Iris Root Found in Asia, reishi mushrooms are something of a skincare secret weapon. “Reishi mushrooms are very effective due to the high amount of beta-glucans present,” says Dr Bal. Ready for the science bit? Beta-glucans are naturally occurring polysaccharides (basically ‘good’ sugars) which help to “smooth the overall texture of skin” and maintain the skin’s protective barrier. Reishi mushrooms also “harness anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties” to improve skin’s immunity to wrinkle-causing free radicals, explains Dr Shah. “This can leave you with younger looking skin.” As for iris root, it “stimulates the skin through isoflavones” (which provide antioxidant protection and moisture), says Dr Bal. On a deeper level, “iris root can help encourage the skin cells to stay active and reduce internal damage that leads to fine lines,” says Dr Shah. At the same time, “it nourishes and conditions the skin leaving you with a lovely, fresh, radiant complexion.” What more could you want? Try… Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate (£70), the cult face cream suitable for all skin types and ages. A bottle is sold every 9 seconds – that’s how loved it is. It contains, you guessed it), reishi mushroom and iris root – along with Vitamins C, E & H to protect cells from pesky free radicals. Visibly reversing up to 72 hours of skin damage, over time it makes the skin more resilient to oxidants, pollution, and blue light (aka your face’s biggest enemies). In the same range, Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Concentrate (£58), is relaunched this month and designed to strengthen the delicate skin in the eye area, reducing damage by 30% in just a week. Seriously smart skincare. For stimulated smoother skin Natsume & Ashitaba “These natural extracts are both potent antioxidants, which help repair skin damage, and encourage cell turnover, improving the texture of the skin,” says facial aesthetics expert Dr Nina Bal (facialsculpting.co.uk). Originating in Japan, natsume extract comes from the jujube fruit (a small red date), while ashitaba is a plant that’s been used in herbal medicine for centuries. “Jujube has many health benefits, and applied topically it can help to prevent the forming of wrinkles, keeping skin firm,” says dermatologist Dr Shah (artistryclinic.co.uk). “As well as targeting inflammation, ashitaba is known to boost energy inside skin cells, resulting in supple skin.” Try… the new Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Cream (£75). Formulated with Shiseido’s updated ReNeura Technology+ it combines the powers of natsume and ashitaba to stimulate skin cells and boost their responsiveness, making the cream’s potent active ingredients – including powerful hyaluronic acid – even more effective. Particularly good if you feel your skin has become ‘desensitised’ and your usual skincare isn’t working as well as it once was. For serious plumping power… Japanese Algae “Algae is an incredibly helpful skincare ingredient as it plays a key role in hydration,” says Dr Bal. “It can also help increase the production of collagen in the skin, keep it looking firm and youthful.” A mineral-rich, water-based ingredient, “algae helps to maintain the skin’s natural barrier and lock moisture in, simultaneously hydrating and rebuilding the skin,” says Dr Shah. Try…new Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream (£62). Launching this month it contains KOMBU-Bounce Complex – formulated with green, brown, and red Japanese algae – it acts as a natural ‘filler’. Super-hydrating and plumping, it can visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eye area after two weeks of use.
