Recently, they’ve shared recipes for Christmas cinnamon biscuits and Christmas pudding. Following the theme for Christmas treats, the Queen’s chefs have now shared their recipe to make the ‘perfect’ gingerbread house. The Royal Family Instagram account shared a step-by-step tutorial for the recipe. The caption reads: ‘In the run up to Christmas, the chefs in the Royal kitchens have shared their recipe for making the perfect Gingerbread House. Make with warming ground ginger and decorate to your own style!’ View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily) The first step is to make the gingerbread dough by combining the flour, bicarbonate of soda and spices. Next, add the cold diced butter and continue mixing until the mixture resembles crumbs. Then, add the sugar and combine. Next in is the eggs and syrup, which you mix into the ingredients until a dough is formed. Divide the dough into two blocks and knead together by hand. Flatten the dough, and then wrap and chill it for a few hours before rolling out. Then it’s time to cut the gingerbread house shapes out, using this handy template. The dough needs one more chill before baking. Royal.uk The royal icing is a pretty standard recipe. Sieve the icing sugar and combine with egg white and lemon juice by hand, before placing into a mixer. Mix it at a low speed for about two minutes, then scrape the sides and paddle. Continue mixing for another five minutes until it’s reached creamy, hard peaks. You can find all of the precise details and the full gingerbread house recipe here. Fans clearly love watching the royal chefs create tasty treats. One follower commented: ‘Beautiful. These baking and cooking videos are my favourite. Thank you for making and sharing them.’ Another wrote: ‘I hope Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis get to see and taste this!’ Getty Images Mike Tindall, husband to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara, recently revealed details of the royal Christmas lunch. Unfortunately, due to Covid concerns, the lunch was cancelled yet again this year, so we don’t know if the Queen’s great-grandchildren will get to enjoy the gingerbread house after all.
