From horror-fests at the UK’s biggest theme parks, to creepy trails through dense forests, we’ve rounded up the best activities for Halloween this year. Halloween events 2022 Halloween at Blenheim Palace Oxfordshire 21st – 31st October As Halloween creeps closer and the days shorten, a mysterious mist falls across the gardens at Blenheim Palace. Join with family and friends to wander from dusk into darkness between one ghostly space to another… if you dare! Watch out for flickering flames in a fiendish fire garden, daring fire artists and grinning pumpkins aglow. Wind your way through the illuminated haunted woods filled with creepy neon cobwebs, ghastly ghouls, wicked witches, larger-than life spiders and beastly bats. Then discover the Secret Garden filled with more hidden surprises. Could it be a trick of the light or do things really go ‘bump in the night’? Hot chocolates and hot toddies will also be on offer to add a delicious twist to proceedings. Book tickets here The London Dungeons 15th – 31st October This Halloween, the Dungeons dare you to step into the attic of the most haunted house in England: 50 Berkley Square. Mystery murder and madness surround the terrifying legend of this property, with countless lives lost. As the stories of these fateful souls play out in front of your eyes, just one questions remains – will you survive the night. The limited-run show is included with standard entry to the London Dungeon, but book in advance as it’s bound to sell out! Book tickets here Scarefest at Alton Towers Staffordshire 7th -9th, 14th -31st October As the nights get longer, get ready for all sorts of creepy scares, shocks and thrills as Alton Towers Resort celebrates 15 years of its award-winning Scarefest. On October’s spookiest dates, prepare for spines to be tingled, from the frantically funny and seriously spooky themed attractions for all ages, including a brand-new scare attraction for the bravest of souls. Open until 9pm, daring guests can face head-spinning, hair-raising rides and attractions in the darkness including Wicker Man and the Alton Towers Dungeon. If that’s not scary enough, brace yourselves for the return of three multi-award winning, terrifying mazes. Are you courageous enough for a terrifying adventure aboard ‘The Mutiny’ in Darkest Depths? Are you mad enough to find out the secret of the ‘Skin Snatchers’ in Altonville Mine Tours? Or dare you venture up to The Attic where local people say the ghost of the Governess still seeks revenge for the death of her charges? Book tickets here Halloween trail at Gibside Gateshead 22nd – 30th October Visit this National Trust property to creep through the chilling outdoor trail, solving puzzles to uncover a Halloween mystery along the way. Gibside is one of a few surviving Georgian Landscape Gardens and was fashioned with two things in mind: spectacular views and ‘wow’ moments. Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle of modern life within 600 acres of gardens, woodland and countryside. More information here The Horror Show At Somerset House London 27th Oct 2022 – 19th Feb 2023 This autumn Somerset House presents a major exhibition celebrating our greatest cultural provocateurs and visionaries, examining how ideas rooted in horror have informed the last 50 years of creative rebellion in Britain. The Horror Show! is a landmark exhibition that invites visitors to journey to the underbelly of Britain’s cultural psyche and look beyond horror as a genre, instead taking it as a reaction to our most troubling times. Featuring over 200 artworks and culturally significant artefacts from some of our country’s most provocative artists, the exhibition presents an alternative perspective on the last five decades of modern British history in three acts – Monster, Ghost and Witch. Recast as a story of cultural shapeshifting, each section interprets a specific era through the lens of a classic horror archetype with thematically linked contemporaneous and new works. Book tickets here Half term Halloween Trail at St Fagan s near Cardiff 29th October – 6th November Keep your little goblins and witches amused this half term with St Fagan’s Halloween Trail. You can pick up your trail and follow the clues to find the pumpkins hidden around the museum. Draw in the pumpkin faces, look for the letters by the pumpkins to crack the creepy code then head back to the museum shop to collect your prize. Trails will be available in the Atrium on arrival, no booking required. Fright Nights at Thorpe Park Surrey 30th September – 31st October Thorpe Park’s award-winning Halloween events returns for a 21st birthday like no other. With no fears going untouched, you’ll be sleeping with the lights on after you come face-to-face with the most horrific, dreaded, and tormented terrors at Thorpe Park this fearful Fright Nights. It features spine-tingling scare mazes, truly terrifying scare zones and awe-inspiring shows, including three new scare attractions alongside some of the UK’s most thrilling rides in the dark. There’s also the world’s first horror movie themed rollercoaster SAW – The Ride!​​ Pre-book your tickets to save up to £20pp. Book tickets here Theatre Royal Drury Lane London One of the world’s most haunted theatres, Theatre Royal Drury Lane (The Lane) is set to host a series of late-night Halloween Theatre Tours, taking guests on a tour of ghostly theatrical history across this iconic London landmark. The tours last for approximately one hour. Foodies can also enjoy a new Halloween themed Afternoon Tea in the opulent surroundings of The Lane’s Grand Saloon. The menu includes haunted graveyard cakes with creepy piped vines, a gingerbread gravestone and biscuit soil, and more! More information here. Patisserie Valerie nationwide This Halloween, the bakers at Patisserie Valerie have lovingly handmade a range of wickedly sweet treats for the whole family to enjoy, with nationwide delivery available. Sink your teeth into devilishly spectacular limited-edition creations, including the Halloween Orange Ombre Cake, Toffee Apple Cake and Pumpkin Spiced Latte Cake. Elevate your celebrations with grand centrepieces, for friends and family, and get yourself ready for the season of scares. Biscuiteers Notting Hill and Belgravia Various dates Biscuiteers will be offering icing classes with a spooky twist this October, including a Kids Halloween DIY icing tutorial (enjoyed alongside a free hot chocolate) and the Halloween School of Icing, a £90 class in which home baking enthusiasts can improve their repertoire with ghoulish icing techniques! More information here PrimEvil Norfolk 14th – 31st October Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but Norfolk’s largest live Halloween event is revelling in the superstition as it returns for its thirteenth year of fear. After its most successful year to date, reaching a record number of ticket sales and over 20,000 visitors, plus completely selling out during its final four nights of terror – PrimEvil returns in 2022 ready to break even more records. The award-winning scare experience, featuring five terrifying haunts full of unimaginable scares, will be taking place on selected nights from Friday 14th October until Halloween itself. Puttshack three London locations Hit a Halloween hole in one between 22nd – 31st October when each of Puttshack’s locations will be getting into the spirit of spooky season. Courses will be given a ghostly makeover with skeletons and spiders, team members will be in creepy costumes on Monday 31st and putters can raise a ghoulish glass with two special edition Halloween cocktails. The Kiss of Death combines Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale gin with passion fruit, melonade, pineapple and lemon – finished with a sinister rice paper skull. And conjure up a mysterious Mexican concoction with the Black Magic – Casamigo mezcal shaken with Don Julio tequila, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, blueberry and lime.
