YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause By Sophie Hines - October 7, 2022 Davina McCall has become a powerful advocate for women going through the menopause, presenting a documentary on the subject as well as releasing a new book, Menopausing. She recently appeared on The One Show to discuss the subject, and revealed how she had previously suffered at work after a day of extreme brain fog. ‘I just couldn’t stop crying’ she recalled. ‘I was really hysterically crying. So I just thought; “I am going mad”. And I felt so lonely. And I had nowhere to turn. No one to talk to.’ The One Show’s host, Jermaine Jenas, then asked Davina ‘Is there anything or any way that men can be very supportive through this process?’ To which Davina responded; ‘Oh, Jermaine. I mean there’s so many, we want men on board so badly.’ Davina described how her partner, hairdresser Michael Douglas, had much a huge effort to learn more about the menopause. ‘He’s in the book talking about how to deal your menopausal hair’ she said. ‘He learned a lot about it so he can help his clients and understand me better. ‘I can’t tell you how much that means when the person you care about makes an effort to learn about something that is happening to you, so that they can sympathise with you and understand it.’ Davina also revealed that ‘I’ve had men come up to me in the street and say; “I thought I’d lost my wife. I thought she didn’t like me anymore. Because it was me. I thought I was doing something wrong. And now I understand it. It’s brought us so much closer together.”’ A great call to arms for men to educate themselves! Find out more about the menopause here.
