YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food This is why you shouldn’ t keep your prosecco in the fridge By You Magazine - September 2, 2019 We all like a lovely glass (or two) of fizz now and again, whether we’re celebrating an occasion or simply enjoying a bottomless brunch with our friends at the weekend. But one thing is for sure, it has to be nice and cold. Or so we thought. Getty Images No one likes warm bubbly and that’s why we tend to keep our sparkling wines in the fridge. But according to winemaker Marie-Christine Osselin, we shouldn’t be storing prosecco, or other similar drinks like champagne, in the fridge at all. Instead, we should only keep the bottles in the fridge for a maximum of four days before drinking as otherwise, it will affect the taste of the tipple. Speaking to Huffington Post, Osselin explained: ‘If you’re planning to enjoy your bottle of champagne (or sparkling wine) within 3 to 4 days of the purchase, it is fine to store the bottle in the refrigerator. But only keep it in the fridge for a few days, or else the bubbly will begin to change.’ She continued: ‘If it sits in the fridge for weeks, the cork can dry out due to no humidity. As corks dry out, the seal between the bottle and the cork loosen up and the champagne will oxidize faster, changing its aromas.’ Getty Images To avoid this, Osselin suggests storing your bottles of fizz in a cool, dry area that is out of direct sunlight and maintains consistent temperature. Perhaps a mini DIY wine cellar? While we’re on the topic of sparkling wine, you may want to check out the likes of Aldi, Lidl and Morrison when shopping for fizz. Not only have German supermarkets Aldi and Lidl won endless awards for their respective budget wine ranges, but last year, Morrison’s prosecco was voted the best bargain bottle on the shelves. And with the festive season fast approaching, expect some great deals coming to a store near you soon.
