You’re not alone – excitement is spreading across the nation, and in fact, if recent reports are anything to go buy, even Queen Elizabeth II herself might be buying herself a ticket. During a recent interview with HELLO! magazine, Lord Carnarvon, who owns Highclere Castle, where the period drama is filmed, the royals have watched Downton in the past – although they’re unlikely to have had room in their busy schedules to watch every episode. Getty Images Explaining that the Queen has visited the location previously, he added: ‘Well I’m sure she’s [the Queen] watched some of it. But she’s such a busy, amazing lady that I doubt she’d have have time to sit and see it all’. Previous reports have also indicated that Queen Elizabeth has enjoyed the escapades of the Crawley family – back in 2015, Brian Hoey, author of At Home With The Queen told The Telegraph that Her Majesty was an avid viewer of the programme. Image: Getty Images ‘We were talking about Trooping the Colour and how the Queen always notices if anything is not quite right, such as one young officer she spotted wearing his medals in the wrong order not long ago,’ he explained. ‘Apparently she is exactly the same when she is watching the television. She loves watching Downton Abbey and pointing out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed.’ In addition to Downton, the Queen is apparently partial to BBC gameshow Pointless, and has even seen Netflix’s The Crown, experiencing the slightly bizarre scenario of watching Claire Foy’s portrayal of the experiences of her younger self. Image: Rex Features ‘Edward and Sophie [Elizabeth’s son and his wife] love The Crown,’ a senior royal source told the Sunday Express. ‘It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film.
