YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion The Chic List My autumn leaf from Wintour s book By Joanne Hegarty - October 2, 2022 Fashion columnist and influencer Joanne Hegarty on the value of list-making, especially when it comes to style. Do you, like me, constantly wake at 4am and immediately start checking things off your mental to-do list? Find nine-year-old’s swimming goggles. Book vet appointment. And all the rest… Women are especially cursed by this. We should all be getting more deep sleep but, living as we do in a world of over-stimulation, psychologists say that making lists is the best way to make us feel we can control the uncontrollable. AddIng sassy Rrd to my wardrobe thIs season wIth a preloved knit from Vestiaire. jeans, Le Jane by Frame. Jacket by The Row I’ve long been fascinated by my fellow list-makers such as Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who begins the run-up to New York’s annual Met Gala by carefully writing out two neat columns: who’s in and who’s out. Unexpectedly, America’s founding father Benjamin Franklin is another favourite. According to his biographer Walter Isaacson: ‘Franklin loved making lists. He made lists of rules for his tradesmen’s club, of synonyms for being drunk, of maxims for matrimonial happiness and of reasons to choose an older woman as a mistress.’ I like to make a style list at the start of every season and this is what my autumn-winter musings look like so far: Red The colour of danger – and sex – is making a full-blooded return. Specifically, I’m fantasising about a vintage Gucci red knit that I’m hoping to find on a preloved site. In-between shoes I must take my loafers, which I wear constantly in September and October, to the cobblers to get re-soled before the weather gets really cold. French movies The other night I watched No Limit – a French film on Netflix – and loved seeing Camille Rowe play a talented young woman caught up in a toxic love affair with her deep-sea diving instructor. I was also captivated by Rowe’s effortless wardrobe of oversized shirts, grey sweaters and cutoff denims – a look I plan to channel next time I’m lucky enough to travel. Pinstripe suit I’m on a mission to find the perfect navy I love trouser suits in all seasons and this will be one of my autumn-winter splurges. Candles and bath oil Lovely calming smells get me through dark winter Favourites include Trudon’s Gourmand Chimney Fire candle and Susanne Kaufmann bath oil. Blazers, cardigans and trench coats I need to wear – and enjoy – these to the max before coat season kicks in and we are all weighed down by heavier layers. ONE TO GOOGLE Carrie Bradshaw’s famous brownstone apartment on Perry Street in New York still attracts lots of fans. Now if you’re in Paris, you can type Emily Cooper’s apartment into Google maps, and it will take you directly to her building at 1 Place de l’Estrapade. I’m sure the French are enchanté!
