YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion Fashion director Shelly Vella in the green room with Jumper 1234 By You Magazine - June 3, 2021 Each week we celebrate a brand committed to implementing practices that won’t cost the earth whilst still delivering beautiful, timeless pieces. This week we get touchy-feely with all the luxurious knits over at Jumper 1234. I think it’s safe to say that most of us have been happy to tuck our warmer clothing away after the cold, damp weather of late, however, our wonderful British weather will always be changeable and the warmest of summer evenings can turn chilly. I love to have a chic knit on hand to layer over a summer dress and my favourite style is something bright, fun and essentially the type that makes you happy when you pull it on. This is exactly what makes Jumper 1234 so special and why I love them. ‘Born in London and bred in Mongolia’ they are witty and upbeat in design, gloriously luxe and of course fairly traded. You can also machine wash them which is always a bonus. Contemporary and playful, they will get you noticed. So, what’s the story behind Jumper 1234? Born out of a love of knitwear and a long-standing friendship, founders Denise and Jane jumped on a connection with a friend working with sustainable cashmere fibre out in Mongolia. The time felt right to launch something eco-conscious and affordable and that would be a timeless and effortless addition to any wardrobe. It began as just a handful of styles and colours and has grown organically into a much-loved label. Cashmere Cardigan, £255, Jumper 1234 Three words that sum up Jumper Can we have 4? Hug in (a) Jumper! What does sustainability mean to you? The longevity of all of our pieces has always been of utmost importance, so each item must uphold its quality for years. We repair our customer’s time-worn pieces and as animal lovers, we ensure that no animals are harmed in the harvesting of the cashmere. In Mongolia, the herdsman take extremely good care of their goats which is really important to us as a brand. We’re proud that our packaging is fully biodegradable and we’re constantly looking at ways to improve our eco-footprint. Mega Leopard Cardi, £255, Jumper 1234 What sustainable, eco-conscious processes do you have in place? Mongolian cashmere is ethically sourced and hand-combed out of the goat’s coat in March each year after the harsh winter and when the goats have naturally started to moult. The nomadic herdsmen then sell the raw fibre directly to a Mongolian manufacturing company ensuring a fair price by which they can sustain their traditional way of life. We also support the ‘Green Gold’ project, which works to help and improve the livelihoods of herder households. Stripe Orange Cable Cardigan, £179, Jumper 1234 What are your brand highlights? Our collaboration with the Serena Morton Gallery and working with three amazing artists (Orlando Campbell, Sabrina Rowan Hamilton and Jeny Howorth) was a joy! Seeing those pieces worn by Fearne Cotton, Laura Bailey, Naomi Campbell and Jasmine Hemsley was brilliant. We have also partnered with The House of St Barnabas and are working with them on special pieces to support the brilliant work they do. What are your best-selling pieces? Our brightly coloured Leopard Print Cardigans and our Danger Heart Jumper are two of our most popular designs.
