YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Sandi Toksvig opens up on real reason she left Great British Bake Off By Kanika Banwait - May 5, 2022 The Great British Bake Off is the type of reliable, wholesome TV show that we don’t want tampered with. There was uproar in 2017 when it moved from the BBC to Channel 4, even more so when it was announced Mary Berry wouldn’t be continuing as a judge, or Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins as presenters. Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig took over as hosts, with Prue Leith as the new judge alongside Paul Hollywood, but just as we settled in to the new format, Sandi revealed she would be leaving Bake Off after three years. The news came as a shock to fans of the show, but recently the comedian and presenter shed some more light onto her decision to leave. Sandi appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier this week to promote her upcoming tour, but while chatting to Kate Garraway and Adil Ray, the conversation eventually turned to GBBO. Getty Images Sandi admitted that when it came to the baking, she actually ‘paid no attention at all’. Kate then asked: ‘Why did you leave by the way? I don’t think we ever worked it out. Did you just get fed up?’ Sandi replied: ‘I think you can only watch so much meringue dry. After a while you just need to move along.’ Rex Features Adil Ray then questioned whether Sandi ‘just got bored’ of the show and job, to which Sandi said: ‘I did three years and I enjoyed it. I’m huge friends with Prue as well, we stayed great mates and I had a lovely time. But the world is so exciting and so interesting and what I love is live things. When you don’t know what’s going to happen right now.’ So it seems Sandi’s love for live television was part of her decision. When she originally announced the news, she said she was stepping down to spend ‘more time with my other work’. She continued: ‘Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.’ READ MORE: Matt Lucas reveals how he was ‘thin-shamed’ over weight loss RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
