YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food This is the secret to making the perfect Negroni cocktail By You Magazine - June 19, 2019 Simple to make (and dangerously easy to drink), the Negroni is one of the most popular cocktails around. And it’s enduring – 2019 marks 100 years since its creation, and it was recently ranked second in a list of the world’s best-selling classic cocktails. The ingredients may seem straightforward (1:1:1 ratio of CAMPARI, vermouth rosso and gin) but its complex taste means it truly grows with age – once we’ve outgrown the sweet cocktails, choosing a Negroni can be seen as the ultimate mark of graduation to a refined palate. Below, mixologist and CAMPARI Brand Ambassador, Paolo Tonellotto’s explains how you can master the Negroni at home.. Getty Images Line up your spirits A classic Negroni comprises of 1:1:1 ratios of CAMPARI, vermouth rosso and gin, so is very easy to perfect from home with little or no equipment. You just need equal measures of each and you’ll have a perfect, classic Negroni to start off with. Ice up size matters If you’d prefer to go ice-free, make sure you stir your ingredients over ice first before straining, so you have a nice chilled Negroni to sip on. However, if you like your Negroni on the rocks, make it a big one – a large block that half fills your glass will keep your drink chilled without unnecessarily diluting the spirit. And it looks pretty stunning. Bring out an old fashioned glass As the Negroni is a sipping drink, it is best enjoyed in a short, wide, but heavyweight glass tumbler – otherwise known as an old fashioned or lowball glass. This allows you to get closer to the aroma as well. A glass with a crystal etched design is a classic way to enjoy the drink – the chunky ice allows the colours to bounce around the glass so you can enjoy your drink in style. Shaking the ingredients in ice could make the drink too cold and add a froth that isn’t usually present in a classic Negroni. Oranges at the ready Perfect your Negroni with an orange garnish in the form of a neat wedge, or a slice of dried orange. If you really want to amp up the experience, gently twist an orange peel over the drink to release the orange oils and build on the aroma. To celebrate the Negroni’s centenary, CAMPARI is holding N100: Cheers to the Count, the ultimate Negroni party on the 20thJune and then six additional dedicated parties from the 22nd across the UK, each championing the impressive cultural impact this iconic cocktail has had over the last 100 years. N100: Cheers to the Count will be bringing together over 100 cocktail recipes from the UK’s best bars, mixologists and tales inspired by moments of the iconic cocktail’s colourful history.
