YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors Art director and stylist Zeena Shah on her new book Marbling By Charlotte Page - September 15, 2022 Stylist, designer, presenter, illustrator and all-round joy-bringing influencer Zeena Shah has a wonderful new book out named Marbling. It’s an age-old technique with endless possibilities, which Zeena walks you through. From ruffled headbands, phone-cases, candles and much more, Charlotte Page (@stylingyourhome) finds out all there is to know… Zeena! Congratulations on the release of your new book, how are you feeling? I am absolutely BUZZING for this age-old craft to have a well-deserved colourful revival. What can we expect? Plenty of colour! I’m also sharing my tips and tricks for how to find your colour confidence; it looks easy but bringing more colour into your life can often be a little daunting. If you’re not sure where to begin, then you’ll definitely have found your colour confidence by the end of my book. There are 20 craft projects to create from up-cycling old jam jars and vases to sewing a cool collar to wear. As well as lots of paper craft projects for my fellow stationery addicts. The use of colour in your day-to-day life and across your Instagram account is so inspiring, have you always been a fan of colour? I’ve always been drawn to colour, I trained as a textile designer at Chelsea School of Art and a big part of the course involved mixing up inks and dyes to use for fabric dying and silk screen printing, so I really honed my eye for colour then. Don’t ask me how many dye disasters I had, it’s a marathon not a sprint. When did you first try marbling and why did it have such an impact on you? It’s actually something many of us would have tried in an art lesson at school. As a fan of all things surface pattern design I revisited the technique over lockdown and really fell back in love with the immediacy and versatility of the technique. I hosted workshops on my Instagram called ‘Mindful Marbling’ because the process itself is so mesmerising and relaxing it’s such a great way to switch off and watch the swirling water lull you into serenity. For anyone who doesn’t feel they have the confidence to create and craft, what would your tips be to begin on this journey? Just start, give it a go, you’ve got nothing to lose. The beauty of marbling is that you can try it without spending a fortune. Grab some nail polish, a bowl filled with water and something to dip into the water and off you go. Your husband Zack is a creative genius when it comes to paper-craft (@paperandwood_), do you ever get to work together? I wish, he really is such a talent! We’re always too busy working on our own projects but perhaps this is the year as I could see marbled papers working so beautifully in his paper sculptures! Thanks Zeena!
