Should you add the bag first or last? How much milk should you add? Is sugar sacrilege? The arguments rage on in households and workplaces across the country. Getty Images However, if you’ve ever disagreed with someone you love over an extra splash of dairy or simple slice of lemon, spare a thought for university student Jessica Bamidele, who shared her favourite way to enjoy a cuppa on her Twitter account, and inadvertently sparked internet-wide outrage. ‘Did anyone else use to scrape toast crumbs into their tea to give it texture?’ she asked, in a tweet which has since generated hundreds of responses. (@tbamz97) February 26, 2019 ‘That’s just nasty,’ one responder told her, while another declared: ‘This is outrageous.’ ‘What I want to know is, how did u even stumble across this in the first place,’ a third questioned. Defending her decision, Jessica explained to Metro.co.uk ‘I first did it back when I was in secondary school by accident.’ ‘I didn’t have time to make another cup of tea so I just drank it like that and it tasted really nice! More than one commenter on her thread did admit to dipping their toast into their tea, but the notion of adding crumbs deliberately was still a step too far. Last year, it was revealed that roughly a third of Brits drink five or more cups of tea per day, with the most popular biscuit to accompany named as a chocolate digestive. Toast, however, didn’t get a mention.
