YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel Wildwood spa-retreat review North Devon By Charlotte Page - August 26, 2022 YOU’s Interiors coordinator Charlotte Page (@stylingyourhome) checks in for the weekend to Wildwood spa-retreat, which promises a ‘back to nature’ escape and is located in the picturesque North Devon village of Lee. With only relaxation and restoration in mind, this truly spectacular setting is more than your average overnight stay. The idyllic rental has been styled by interiors giant Wayfair with its plush furniture, organic silhouettes and mood-boosting details. Here’s what to expect… Rooms and facilities The architectural design of Wildwood Spa features two living spaces. It’s completely secluded and sits among 12 acres of private woodland overlooking a natural pond and crystal clear stream. Starting with the bedroom, the retreat sleeps two adults and features a heavenly double bed that you sink right into – perfect for movie night using the hidden projector. Hugh Grant in Notting Hill anyone? With an en-suite bathroom, you are treated to an indoor and outdoor shower. Inside the facilities are sleek, modern and high-tech. Step outside and you are greeted with natural materials, wood, stone and plants with a huge rainfall inspired shower-head – it really is like showering in the jungle, but be mindful to keep an eye out for the resident creepy-crawlies. The amenities don’t stop there – you’ll also find a Jacuzzi-sized freestanding bathtub surrounded by towering plants offering an indoor/outdoor experience. Privacy is not a problem, as you’re surrounded by timber cladding and vertical louvres. Stylishly hidden having used the ancient Japanese method of fire (Shou-Sugi-Ban), the structure blends perfectly into its natural surroundings. Walk past the infinity pool and you are welcomed into the kitchen and lounge area. A luxurious velvet sofa and snuggle chair surround a suspended fire – the perfect spot for reading and relaxing. Food and Drink On arrival you have the option to be greeted with a lavish graze board consisting of local cheeses and cured meats, a bulging breakfast hamper and a chilled bottle of Champagne. It makes you feel truly spoilt the minute you arrive. When booking your stay at Wildwood Spa you also have the option of a private chef. Coastal Cooks will prepare your food on site and set up a spot for you both to enjoy. Chef Graham Brundle has a distinguished international career that includes being personal chef to Richard Branson and HRH King of Jordan, so you’re well looked after. We enjoyed melt-in-your-mouth scallops to start, and a divine portion of Exmoor beef and Parma ham to follow. For dessert, the light and airy profiteroles were a no-brainer and certainly hit the spot. Guests can also cook for themselves in the kitchen and there’s the option to head over to the local pub, The Grampus, which is just a short walk away. Retreat highlights Wildwood Spa wants you to immerse yourself into its surroundings and be at one with nature, its showpiece being the heated infinity pool. Surrounded by trees, natural ponds and clear running streams, it honestly feels like you’re nestled in the middle of a rainforest. The upper deck of the retreat features a woodland sauna and relaxation area, an open-fire with comfy seats to enjoy through the colder months, perfect for a spot of stargazing. You can arrange a spa-treatment with the retreat’s local aromatherapists, reflexologist and massage therapists. The natural elements throughout are a testament to the Wildwood Spa’s dedication to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly stay. What to do nearby The village of Lee is situated in an area recognised of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The small town in North Devon has a secluded, rocky cove sounded by the rolling Devonshire countryside. Nearby you can expect a vast golden sandy beach in Woolacombe, having been recognised as one of the best beaches in the UK. With plenty of restaurants and bars around you’re certainly spoilt for things to do. So if you’re looking to get back to nature and a chance to discover somewhere new, Wildwood Spa and its surroundings has an abundance on offer.
