It’s time for what I call ‘springtime face’. I’m guessing that this phrase is self-explanatory: as the seasons change it usually causes a shift in our make-up choices as well as our clothes. Things become lighter, fresher, even cheerier. Adding warmth is also fairly traditional – although in truth I’m a trans-seasonal bronzer wearer. And although there are plenty of classics I’d be happy to return to, a newcomer in the category also has me very excited. Say hello to Milk Makeup Bionic Bronzer (£23, cultbeauty.co.uk). This is a liquid bronzer in a tube and you need just a small amount. Be warned, though: when you first dab it on your face you’ll think you’ve accidentally swiped some tar on there. But fear not, it blends into a sheer hint of sun-kissed warmth – fingertips are fine for the job, but use a sponge or brush if you prefer. I use it after moisturiser as I like a very natural look but if you would rather wear a foundation then my pick of favourites from recent launches is here. My other key new spring favourite is Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush (£19, spacenk.com). Rare Beauty is the brainchild of US actress and singer Selena Gomez and has been a resounding success since it came out a few weeks ago. It is the fastest-selling make-up brand launch ever at Space NK and that blush is currently its bestselling make-up product across all brands and categories. Not surprising because it’s so easy to use – just apply a dot or two on cheeks and it blends in seamlessly, giving colour and a bit of glow all at once. I love the pale pink shade Bliss, but there are ten others to choose from. People keep asking me… …if the new MacStack Mascara (£26, maccosmetics.co.uk) is really as good as the hype. After all, this is the first time the brand has advertised on television and clearly the added buzz is gaining customer interest. The short answer is: yes, because this is an excellent all-rounder mascara. The promise that you can keep building up coats of product on the lashes without it clumping is indeed true: I’ve kept on applying several times over without a clump in sight. Plus it’s really excellent for adding length and even curl. As I’ve got older I’ve found that my lashes increasingly benefit from (sometimes even require) a visit from the eyelash curlers pre-mascara in order to get proper uplift, but joyously that’s not the case with MacStack. Excellent stuff.
