Having started out as a salon-only brand, the Olaplex treatment has grown to offer a family of products for use at home. The past few years have seen the brand innovate more than ever; in 2020 they launched their No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment to be used alongside the No. 3 Hair Perfector and last year the No. 8 hair mask hit the shops. And now it’s time for a long-awaited serum to join the range. Cult Beauty Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum comes in at £26 for a 90ml bottle, and it promises to smooth, protect and improve the manageability of hair. With antioxidant-rich red algae extract, and the patented Olaplex technology, benefits of continued use include a satin shine, style memory and increased softness, according to the official product page. Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum, £26, Cult Beauty So while pollutants create free radicals that destroy hair bonds and proteins, leading to tangling, split ends and hard-to-style hair, antioxidants such as red algae extract are said to help prevent free radical damage. Olaplex says this magic ingredient ‘bonds to wet hair like an invisible shield to block pollutants, nourish hair, and deliver potent antioxidants to the cuticle that neutralise free radicals before they cause damage.’ Sounds good, eh? Cult Beauty Olaplex No.9 is designed to be used at various points in your styling cycle. Initially as the first step in your hair care routine, apply a small amount to damp hair working upward from ends to the roots. The brand then advises that you also use on any days in between washes for added protection against the elements as it creates a protective seal over the hair follicles. For a soft, textured look let hair dry naturally, but for a more polished look you should blow-dry and style, without the worry of the dryer doing any damage. Olaplex No.9 can also be applied sparingly to dry hair to tame frizz and add an extra sheen. The product has already earned itself a succession of five-star reviews on the Cult Beauty website and it looks like the winning run likely to continue.
