YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Bridgerton’ s intimacy coordinator reveals the hardest part about filming the sex scenes By Anya Meyerowitz - April 12, 2022 Though they look slick, intimate and totally steamy on our screens, behind the camera, a sex scene is anything but ‘sexy’. There are cameras everywhere, for one, and people watching, plus you’ve got to remember all your lines while also pretending to be totally enamoured by your co-star. In short, it’s a pretty tricky part of the job. And Bridgerton‘s intimacy coordinator has revealed that the sex scenes on the Regency drama, for which the show is somewhat renowned, are actually even harder than the norm. Netflix Speaking to Insider, intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot, who choreographs all the steamy scenes for the hit Netflix series, revealed that the hardest part of filming passionate scenes for the show (which took a total of two days to film) is taking off the costumes. ‘A huge part of doing any intimacy scene in the Regency period is how to get the costumes off, because they’re not easy,’ Talbot explains. Netflix ‘They were often dressed by other people, so all of the fastenings are at the back,’ she adds. ‘That’s always a real challenge because you’re now working with two characters who aren’t potentially used to undressing the opposite sex in that way.’ Luckily for Talbot, she reveals that both Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley — who play enemies-turned-lovers Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma — actually helped choreograph their big sex scene in the second season. ‘Jonny and Simone both had really wonderful suggestions on how to get out of their own costumes, because obviously they get in and out of them all day, every day,’ she says. ‘It was really cool to see them suggest how gloves come off, how they wanted to very intentionally pull down stockings, and remove shoes and take off shirts.’ And in fact it was the clothing that meant that the steamy scene in episode seven of the new season of Bridgerton took so long to film: ‘These sex scenes can take a long time, and we’re working very intentionally with Regency costumes — which all have to be reset as well. Every take, if you take something off, you have to schedule time to put it on to take it off again. So they aren’t short scenes to film by any stretch of the imagination,’ Talbot says. In short, next time you’re grappling with your sticky bra clasp, spare a thought for those in the 19th century, hey?
