Lucky for us, a former royal footman has recently been sharing his experience of working behind the palace doors for three and a half years. Speaking to Slingo, former royal footman Steven Kaye revealed some very interesting titbits of information about the Queen’s beloved corgis. Getty Images ‘There was one corgi called Emma that stood out. You’d be walking along the corridor and you’d always try to avoid her because she’d try and bite your ankles.’ Getty Images As you can imagine, life inside the palace runs like clockwork – even for the Queen’s corgis. ‘We used to feed the dogs in the morning. They have their own dog room at Buckingham Palace. It’s quite regal – a great big dark wooden glossy door with a gold handle and beautifully polished floor with all these dog beds all over the place. We would put the food out, most of them had special dietary requirements, so we’d have to remember who had what and they all had a silver dog bowl with their name engraved on it. The Queen would feed them herself at 3 in the afternoon.’ Getty Images When it came to walking the dogs, it wasn’t uncommon for Her Majesty to get outside and do it herself. ‘We’d literally be walking the dogs and you’d turn around, the Queen would be there with her headscarf on and she’d be like, “Oh, I’ll take over now.” We were relieved of our duties and off she went.’ Getty Images Of course, being a pet of the Queen entitles you to certain privileges – such as flying in a private jet! Talking about where Her Majesty likes to spend her time the most, Steven said: ‘I think she likes Balmoral as she can walk about with the dogs and nobody disturbs her. She’ll tend to have the dogs with her for the first four weeks and then on staff changeover day, we would then have to fly the dogs back to Windsor. They’d get flown on the private jet to Northolt and a lady that lived on the Great Windsor Park would come and collect them.’ READ MORE: There’s one colour the Queen will never wear RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
