YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors Henry Holland shares his top tips for styling a table By Nicole Gray - April 6, 2022 As fashion guru turned interior designer Henry Holland launches his first breakfast ceramics collection, we meet the designer to chat all things hot in tabletops… What are your top tips and tricks for styling a table to impress Firstly, more is more – and that applies to more than just styling tables; it’s pretty much my mantra in life – so layering is key. Think a bold patterned tablecloth paired with a simple napkin for contrast, and layer up with plates, cutlery and glassware. Freshly cut flowers will also make a huge difference. Remember you don’t need to splurge on a huge bouquet to make an impact; single stems are huge in tablescape design right now, and you can display them in coloured bud vases for extra sparkle. Lighting is also essential. I love bold taper candles for creating the perfect mood. Just make sure that you get low – bonus style points for fluted – candlesticks so that guests can see each other over the top. Mismatching colours and prints yes or no Each to their own but it’s a big fat yes from me. It adds depth and visual interest to a decorating scheme. Plus if a piece gets broken at a dinner party , it doesn’t matter as they don’t match anyway. What’ s hot in tabletop right now The chequerboard and gingham print is everywhere right now, and you can’t beat a statement floral in a bold colour. Should eye-catching tableware be stored away for special occasions Absolutely not. Every day’s a special occasion. Ceramics should be multifunctional to suit all occasions. For example, my breakfast bowls can double up as noodle or soup bowls for dinner time. What was the inspo behind the new collection A lot of the shapes are inspired by my mum’s collection of antique ceramics that she collected over the years. She was always drawn to the art deco style, and I think that comes through in pieces I have created in the collection. For me, interiors is all about surrounding yourself with pieces that resonate and mean something to you. What is your favourite piece and why I think it’s got to be the ‘Loopy Mug’ or the new ‘Breakfast Bowl’ as these are the shapes most closely based on pieces inspired by my mum’s collections. Who would be your dream breakfast guests Cher. I just love her. She also sued me once so it would be nice to apologise over some scrambled eggs… make sure there’s no hard feelings. What s next on the horizon Lots more ceramics – I want to start working on some larger-scale pieces and I’ve also started working on a new lighting collection too. Breakfast collection, from £65 for a breakfast bowl. Available to order now.
