Style inspiration can strike in mysterious and unexpected ways. From Carrie Bradshaw’s kitchen cupboards to a fabulously organised walk-in wardrobe, I have officially been influenced. An outfit inspired by my two favourite icons – Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and JacKie O. Linen shirt by Arket, trousers by the Alex Eagle Studio and bag by Loewe Here’s how… The jewellery organisers Surface, a slick new psychological thriller on Apple+, is set in high-end San Francisco and tells the story of Sophie, played by British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She loses her memory after suffering a head injury in an apparent suicide attempt and embarks on a quest to put the pieces of her life back together, with the help of her husband and best friend. However, she soon begins to question whether she is being told the truth about how things were. After watching the first few episodes, I bought four jewellery trays from Stackers (£20, johnlewis.com) because I was mesmerised by Sophie’s walk-in wardrobe and immaculately arranged jewellery collection. Her slinky dresses and strong accessories are an inspiration too. Meanwhile, Mbatha-Raw’s own style is feminine with an edge. She’s quickly becoming my new fashion crush. The perfect white dress Even months later, I’m still haunted by Sienna Miller’s simple white shift dress and gold sandals in the opening scene of the Netflix drama Anatomy of a Scandal. Sienna’s character goes to a drinks party and her world is shattered after her first sip of champagne. Meanwhile, my eyes were firmly fixated on that dress by The Row. I have been scouring preloved sites ever since but to no avail. It’s totally sold out. The series also reignited my love for my camel coat, which I’m excited about digging out again this autumn The got-to-have-it bag The BBC’s adaptation of J P Delaney’s novel The Girl Before featured an all-star cast, including Jessica Plummer, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (again!) and David Oyelowo, playing a architect who designs a minimalist house both women live in three years apart. As the gripping story unfolded, I fell in love with Plummer’s red Gucci Jackie bag (below) and when the show ended I started saving. It’s now one of my favourite possessions. Carrie s kitchen cupboards After watching Sex and the City in-off And Just Like That…, I decided to incorporate Carrie and Mr Big’s kitchen design into my own. I loved the fact they had cleverly built cupboards over the cooker to store their plates. I did the same and now I just reach up and grab them as soon as everything is cooked. Voilà – dinner is served. A SHOPPING GAME-CHANGER After a visit to the stylish Reformation clothing store in London’s Notting Hill, the future of dressing rooms became clear. Each of theirs comes with a touch screen, where you can browse available stock and press the size you want to try on. A staff member brings the pieces to your fitting room. Simple but effortless. THINK TANK The humble tank top has been reinvented. It’s a wardrobe basic that rarely commands the spotlight, yet sits centre stage for autumn. Wear this (£15, arket.com) inside tailored blazers for a sophisticated, laidback look MOST WANTED Knitwear designer Camilla Bloom, who is known for her sprightly patterns, has added roomy knitted bags to her latest line-up.
