YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel Hotel review The Fish Hotel Cotswolds By Shelly Vella - April 3, 2022 Flagged as a ‘back to nature bolt hole with a little touch of luxury’ The Fish Hotel delivers exactly on its promise. It boasts a stylishly rustic appeal that’s as unpretentious as it is welcoming, and delivers up all the home comforts that make a stay that extra bit special. It’s the perfect Cotswold destination, whether you want to chill with family, go walking with your dog (yes, it’s 100 per cent dog friendly), party with friends or just secret yourself away with a love interest. The Fish Hotel review ROOMS & FACILITIES We stayed in one of the new hillside huts. These are cute and surprisingly Tardis-like shepherd’s huts, named after characters from A Midsummer’s Night Dream and woven into the woodland beneath streams of fairy lights. The rooms have been lavishly furnished – think a copper bath on feet, a bijou wood burner and a screened off ‘garden’ with a hot tub – and that’s just for starters. Each hut is a mere mooch away from the main hub of The Fish and yet, you feel like you’ve pitched up in your own little piece of paradise. It’s a serene pitstop away from the stresses of work with an added sprinkle of fun – the great outdoors but with all the trimmings. I could have stayed for days. FOOD & DRINK Whatever your dietary needs The Fish Hotel caters over and above. For an award-winning a la carte dinner, The Hook restaurant is a must. A relaxed ambiance awaits, and the warm, knowledgeable team ensure you select the very best wine to complement your food. We wanted for nothing. For more informal fare and a dog-friendly environment, The Bar is your go-to; great salads, pizzas and imaginative snacky bites, so you can lounge, eat, relax, and go. I’m vegan, which can sometimes be troublesome for chefs in more fish-orientated restaurants, not so here, my dishes were all delicious variations on offerings on the veggie menu. HOTEL HIGHLIGHTS The Fish Hotel feels like a village with its leafy pathways leading from the hideaway huts to the gorgeous, sculpted treehouses and farmhouse style cottages. At the heart is The Lodge, which is basically the social hub, it’s calm, comfortable, and of course beautifully designed, from the boot room (wellies in all sizes are on offer, just in case you’ve forgotten your own) to the expansive lounges where you can retreat for a cuppa (or something a little stronger) and marvel at the views while relaxing around the stunning 360 fireplaces. For evening, a cocktail on the woodland decking under stars and fairy lights is a must. WHAT TO DO NEARBY Aside from the lovely long walks in the estate’s 400 acres, there are plenty of adventuring activities on offer – from zen-like yoga in nature, to clay shooting, falconry, axe throwing (I had no idea this was a ‘thing’) and archery. Or you can simply venture into the famed local hamlet of Broadway to explore its shops and eateries. It’s a taste of Cotswold living at its finest. BEST FOR Stylish comfort in the countryside. So good you’ll be planning your next visit when you leave. Go to thefishhotel.co.uk for more. Nightly rates at The Fish start from £155 on a B&B basis, based on double occupancy. Rates for the huts start from £295 B&B.
