YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors Small Brand Spotlight My Lady Garden By Georgia Green - March 25, 2022 Every week, we shine a spotlight on the best small brands we think are worth shouting about. We love our great British high street, but there are so many fantastic independent brands out there making clothes, accessories, homeware and more from a place of passion and love and we need to support them – now more than ever. From fashion and beauty to homeware, accessories and food, we bring you the best small businesses you need on your radar. This week, we chat with Kaiva Kaimins, founder and creative director of online contemporary florist My Lady Garden. Instagram/@myladygarden How did My Lady Garden come to life? The name My Lady Garden was born in London where I trained in 2017, raised in New York where I freelanced and then came to life in the first lockdown of 2020, when I signed on to have my own studio in Dalston, London. All my events and weddings for the year were cancelled, so I turned to delivery bouquets to cheer up everyone as Covid seemingly turned everything upside down. It’s grown from there at an incredible speed, evolving at each turn. Weddings, events, workshops, a flower school and nationwide delivery – are some of what we now craft with our blooms in our two storey studio (and pop-up coffee shop!) in Islington. I think everyone likes flowers, I don’t believe the traditional ideology that certain colours or flowers belong to a gender. They spark joy and bring light into everyone’s day to day. I want to make this interesting and modern style of floristry accessible to everyone. This will soon be a monthly colour palette, inspired by collaborations we are doing with other businesses. In June, for example, we will have a collaboration with Shoreditch Nails – celebrating their new nail varnish collection – and will base our flowers and colours off the lilac and pistachio nail varnish. This will also be matched with a Ladygarden manicure in our studio, available on Saturdays. We choose flowers that speak to us, with unique shapes and textures – usually we include anthuriums, hydrangeas and gypsophilia. What does a typical day look like for you? Honestly, no two days are the same. Some days are long and spent in the studio creating, others I’m on-site, filming projects, teaching flower school, writing my book, shooting our new collections, brainstorming new merchandise or having consultations with brides. It’s always different and so, so busy! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kai (@myladygarden) What’s the best thing about running your own business? And the most challenging? The best thing is being able to craft a brand and business identity that I love – the struggles are trying to find a work/life balance. I have not been able to find that yet, as I am a complete workaholic and struggle to switch off. The best moment so far? Signing my first book deal! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kai (@myladygarden) Which bouquet is your current favourite? The SCULPT – we are using french tulips at the moment, my absolute favourites. Anything exciting in the pipeline? So much – our next round of the School of Ladygarden where we teach career courses for a week is coming up – that’s super exciting. Also hopefully a second book and who knows what else – there are some secret things in the works that I can’t reveal just yet, but very fun things are on the horizon… YOU s 3 favourite things My Lady Garden How Deep is Your Love bouquet, £50, My Lady Garden My Lady Garden Cloud bouquet, £50, My Lady Garden My Lady Garden More Than A Woman bouquet, £50, My Lady Garden Shop My Lady Garden at myladygardenflowers.com and follow @myladygarden.
