YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion Spring layering tips to stay stylish in warmer weather By Sophie Hines - March 24, 2022 Only a few days ago, we were at home shivering and contemplating whether wearing a beanie inside would be pushing it too far, and now suddenly spring has sprung from nowhere and we’re sweating through our winter woollies on the bus. If, like us, it’s taken you a bit by surprise, you might be left wondering what an earth to wear at this time of year. A quick scan outside the office reveals people wearing both full winter coats and summer dresses – clearly, we’re all a bit confused. Luckily, there are plenty of trans-seasonal outfits that can likely be cobbled together from existing items in your wardrobe, and won’t leave you either perspiring or chilly. Here are the style rules to follow… Grab a neutral blazer View this post on Instagram A post shared by Debbie Le (@thefashionablepan) A neutral blazer is one item to reach for now. ‘A neutral blazer is your go to transitional layer that you can pair with everything: dresses, jeans, loungewear or tailoring’ says YOU’s Fashion Editor Sophie Dearden. We love it with casual jeans and fancy shoes, as seen on Debbie @thefashionablepan. Bring out the midi dresses View this post on Instagram A post shared by E R I C A D A V I E S (@erica_davies) It’s also a good time of year to start showcasing your midi dresses again, especially if they’ve been relegated to the back of your wardrobe during colder months. On colder spring days, layering a thin roll neck underneath like Erica Davies is a great shout – black is perfect, or you can choose a lighter or brighter colour if you want to make it look more summer-ready. Embrace the sweater vest View this post on Instagram A post shared by Katherine Ormerod (@katherine_ormerod) Sweater vests are another brilliant way to make midi dresses work at this time of year, and the trend is still going strong. They also look great over blouses and teamed with smart, tailored trousers. If you’re a bit nervous about the look, then take inspiration from Katherine Ormerod, who has kept it really simple with a black-and-white combination. Go for a spring-ready shoe View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kat Farmer (@doesmybumlook40) A big question at this time of year is what to wear on your feet. Full-on winter boots feel a bit heavy, and it’s not exactly flip flop weather yet. Luckily, there are plenty of in-betweeny styles that are fashionable right now, from backless mules to clogs to ballet flats (yes! They’re back!) Enjoy lightweight coats View this post on Instagram A post shared by Symphony of Silk Lorna (@symphonyofsilk) When it comes to ditching your winter coat, there are also loads of options, including the trench coat – ‘A relaxed over sized trench coat is a great throw on piece to keep warm in these mid temperatures but not over heat on the move’ says Sophie – to khaki utility jackets. The boxy jacket is also a key item for Spring/Summer, according to Sophie: ‘Throw on over a t-shirt and jeans or layer up with a jumper weather permitting’.
