But scent is a powerful asset, and lots of us swear by pillow sprays to help us nod off on nights when sleep seems like a far-away thought. Getty Images While we’re not in the slightest suggesting they’re one-size-fits-all cures for sleep problems, pillow mists with notes such as lavender or camomile do have calming properties for many. Some sprays also boast impressive stats that show testers really do nod off faster and sleep deeper when the formula is applied to their pillows each night. So if you think you’ve tried everything but haven’t yet tried a pillow mist, these options could be a valuable asset in your battle with your racing mind and wide-open eyes. To use, simply spritz a little over your bedding before you get under the covers, and breathe deeply to allow their soothing properties to take effect. The best pillow sprays for getting to sleep This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, £19.50, LOOKFANTASTIC This one is a cult favourite for a reason: trials of This Works’s award-winning formula show that 89 per cent of users said they fell asleep faster, and 97 per cent felt the quality of their rest was better, too. Sanctuary Spa Sleep Mist, £9 (was £12), Boots Reduced to just £12, Sanctuary Spa’s pillow mist is a great budget option, and reviewers say its blend of jasmine, patchouli & frankincense really does make a difference. ‘I love this product, it smells heavenly without being over powering,’ writes one. ‘It’s so relaxing and every time I use it I have the best nights sleep.’ Neom Perfect Night’s Sleep Pillow Mist, £20, LOOKFANTASTIC Neom is an organic mist that uses a blend of 14 essential oils, including lavender, sweet basil and jasmine to help you switch off. Spray it 10 minutes before bed and allow its aroma to fill the room so that you can drift off quickly and sleep well. Neal’s Yard Remedies Goodnight Pillow Mist, £15, Feel Unique A trial of 100 people using Neal’s Yard’s Goodnight mist found 74 per cent said it aided a peaceful night’s sleep, and 71 per cent would recommend it to someone with sleep issues. It uses lavender, vetiver and mandarin essential oils; dreamy in every sense of the word. Calming Pillow Mist, £16, Boots Cowshed’s pillow mist is layered with St John’s Wort and Lady’s Mantle, both specifically included with the intention of alleviating stress. It can be sprayed onto your bed linen or directly onto your skin for an instant boost.
