The affordable fluid formula launched back in January, retailing at just £7 per 40ml bottle, and is slowly but surely building cult status among skincare buffs, even those who usually swear by more expensive options. On the Boots and Garnier websites, it’s racked up 200 5-star reviews, many of which say it’s the best sun cream for the face they’ve found. ‘I have been looking for a daily facial sunscreen for a long time. I am in love with this one,’ says one. ‘It hasn’t got a strong scent and absorbs into your skin quickly leaving it feeling that nothing is even there. I have dry/oily skin and this doesn’t leave my face looking shiny at all.’ ‘Amazing product’ agrees another. ‘This is a lovely texture, not like any other SPF creams I have used. It’s very light and doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on my skin. Leaves a lovely matt finish and I’m able to apply make-up over the top! It is the only one I use that doesn’t leave my skin oily or shiny.’ Garnier Ambre Solaire Ultra-Light Sensitive Face Fluid SPF50+, £7, Boots Commenters on popular skincare forums have even begun to compare the hyaluronic acid-infused product with La Roche Posay’s cult Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid Sun Cream, a much raved about and genuinely brilliant facial SPF 50+ with a similarly thin, milky texture. The key difference? The Ambre Solaire version is £7, while La Roche-Posay retails for £18 when not on a promotion; even though the bottle is slightly bigger, at 50ml, it still works out at £26.24 per 100ml, compared with Garnier’s £36 per 100ml.
