In November, to mark Stir Up Sunday, the Queen’s chefs shared a recipe for Christmas pudding. Now, the Royal Family Instagram account has posted a step-by-step tutorial demonstrating how to make cinnamon star biscuits. Just in time for Christmas, you can bake up a batch of perfectly festive biccies just perfect for afternoon tea, Elizabeth II-style. The Instagram post read: ‘Want to make your own “Cinnamon Stars”? The Royal pastry chefs at Buckingham Palace are excited to share their recipe with you #ARoyalChristmas.’ View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily) The first step is to mix the icing sugar, egg white and lemon juice into a glossy soft peak meringue. You then take out a third of the mixture and set it aside. To the remaining meringue, bakers should add the ground almond, mixed peel, lemon zest, ground cinnamon and ground cloves. After a mix, knead the dough with your hands. Next, flatten it and place a sheet of baking paper on top. Using a rolling pin, roll it out to 1cm thickness. Then, take the paper off and spread that meringue mixture you set aside earlier over the rolled out biscuit ingredients. Getty Images Afterwards, it’s time to cut the biscuits into shapes. The royal pastry chefs suggest stars, moons and diamonds. The shapes can then be placed in the oven at 160 degrees Celsius. Once they’re cooked and cooled, decorate as you wish and voila! You’ve just created Christmas biscuits fit for the Queen. ‘Those look incredible!’ one person commented on the video. Another royal fan even suggested trying out the recipe and leaving out some cinnamon biscuits for Santa Claus – a great way to get the kids involved with baking, too.
