YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty We tried TikTok’ s favourite blusher hack for a natural glow By Kanika Banwait - February 22, 2022 TikTok has become a hub of genius hacks and handy tips, from fashion and make up to food and money. If you want to know what the next big trend is going to be, you have a good chance of finding it on TikTok first, and there’s one beauty trend that’s caught our eye. TikTok users and beauty buffs have been showing off a different way of applying blusher to create a natural, sun-kissed look. Many of us will do the usual – apply blusher along the cheekbones, smile and touch it up on the apples of your cheeks. But this newer blush technique involves spreading the make up in a ‘W’ shape across your face. @chooseyourglow I accidentally said “U” btw ? #blushhack #fakesunburn #blushapplication #makeuptipsandtricks happier – Olivia Rodrigo The ‘W’ blush hack, or ‘fake sunburn’ as it’s also known, is meant to highlight the parts of your face that the sun usually catches. This means instead of only putting blusher on specific parts of your cheeks, you apply it in a ‘W’ shape across your face, from one side to another. The colour is applied to your cheekbone, up towards your nose, on the bridge of your nose, and down across the other cheekbone. Of course, sunburn is incredibly bad for our skin and we should all be wearing plenty of SPF daily anyway. But this style of blusher is meant to give you a holiday glow without even stepping foot outside. @wingitbeauty What do you think? @rarebeauty #blush #beautyhack #egirl #egirlmakeup #blushhack #tiktokcanada Dark Paradise – Parov Stelar Remix – Lana Del Rey If you’re using a powder blush, start lightly on the outer edge of the cheekbone and move the brush to the centre of your face for a deeper colour. Apply a light touch of blusher to the bridge of your nose. A cream blush should be put on the apples of your cheeks in three short, horizontal stripes, and also on the upper apex of the nose. Use a brush or fingers to create the ‘W’ shape. We like to know what we’re getting ourselves into before trying a new look, so I tried out the TikTok blusher hack for myself… I was initially apprehensive about how bold the ‘fake sunburn’ blusher might look, as I prefer to have a more natural-looking blush and my nose generally has a red undertone anyway. But above, I used the ‘W’ method to apply NARS Taj Mahal powder blusher and definitely felt I looked sun-kissed straight away. I was very careful to only apply a small amount of blusher to the brush, but it was just enough for me to achieve a subtle glow. I do think I could be more daring and wear more blusher for a bolder colour, and still like it. I then removed the powder blusher and tried the technique with Jones Road Miracle Balm in the Dusty Rose shade. As this is a subtle balm anyway, I felt I had to apply quite a lot to get the effect, but it’s a great choice for a dewy finish. A cream blush, such as Glossier’s Cloud Paint, is sure to have a more striking pop of colour and require less product.
