YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Dawn French reveals why she refuses to take part in Strictly Come Dancing By Kanika Banwait - February 21, 2022 There are so many things we love about Strictly Come Dancing, from the glitzy costumes to the amazing routines, but one of the best parts is finding out which celebrities are competing that series. The rumour mill begins churning out names weeks before the show actually confirms which stars will be taking to the dance floor, and if you’re anything like us, you’re sort of hoping there’s someone who’s going to be a bit (okay, very) bad at dancing. We’d love to know all of the celebrities who have been approached to take part in the dancing competition throughout the 18 years it’s been on TV. In fact, comedian Dawn French revealed she was asked once but refused the offer. Dawn was a guest on The Graham Norton Show, which aired on Friday 18 February, alongside professional Strictly dancer Johannes Radebe. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dawn French (@dawnrfrench) Johannes was talking about the show, when Dawn revealed: ‘I might have been asked to do Strictly, but I fear I would be regarded as the funny one and made to do silly things.’ She continued: ‘I take dancing seriously and I would like to do proper dancing.’ While Dawn has a valid point, comedians have had a very successful time on Strictly Come Dancing. Take Bill Bailey for example, who won the Glitterball Trophy in 2020 with professional dancer Oti Mabuse. Comedian Chris Ramsey also came fourth in 2019, so we’d love to see Dawn take up the challenge. She continued to talk to Graham Norton about the return of French & Saunders as a sketch show. Getty Images ‘There are no plans at the moment,’ she said, ‘but we are doing something for Comic Relief this year. I think the time for the sketch show is over, but Jen [Saunders] and I are like kids when we get together and have lots of fun thinking about it – the likes of Line of Duty, Killing Eve and The Crown are just begging for it!’ Okay, so we might not see Dawn French on the Strictly dance floor, but at least there’s more French & Saunders on the way!
