So now that the first episode is finally out, we can get to discussing rather than just speculating about the storyline. We’ll warn you now, this piece contains some serious spoilers for the first episode, so if you haven’t watched it yet, we suggest you go and catch up with it now and then come straight back here. Instagram/@justlikethatmax If you have seen the first episode of And Just Like That…, which aired for the first time in the UK last night on Now TV and Sky Comedy, you’ll know that there was a huge, unexpected shock twist that left us all with our jaws on the floor. We’re referring, of course, to the death of Mr Big, who suffered a heart attack and died after an intense virtual spinning class at home on his Peloton bike. The class was being taught by a fictional Peloton teacher, Allegra, who was in fact played by real-life Peloton instructor, Jess King. Instagram/@justlikethatmax Speaking to Buzzfeed News, Peloton revealed that they were aware their brand was being used in the show and had even approved the product placement – but what they didn’t know was the wider storyline surrounding its use and the pivotal moment their bike was going to play in the show. A spokesperson for Peloton said: ‘Peloton was aware that a Bike would be used in the episode and that Jess King would be portraying a fictional Peloton instructor. ‘Due to confidentiality reasons, HBO did not disclose the larger context surrounding the scene to Peloton in advance.’ Instagram/@justlikethatmax The company also issued a statement from cardiologist and Peloton’s health and wellness advisory council member, Suzanne Steinbaum, suggesting that Mr Big’s lifestyle was most likely what caused his death, rather than his Peloton workout. ‘I’m sure SATC fans, like me, are saddened by the news that Mr. Big dies of a heart attack. Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in Season 6. These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death.
