However, we’ve just stumbled upon a simple new sleep trick that may just be the factor that you’ve been missing. It’s quick, painless and totally free – the only catch? You might feel a little silly whilst you do it… ‘The last thing you do before you settle down to go to sleep… hum like a bumblebee for 10 minutes!’ expert Anandi, who is known as The Sleep Guru, has previously suggested. ‘Bear with me here! The bumblebee breath is incredible for insomnia. It calms the mind, gets rid of negative emotions and stimulates serotonin.’ Convinced enough to give it a try? ‘Turn the lights out, lay comfortably on your back and make the bumblebee sound,’ she advised. ‘Just inhale and hum on the exhale, and that’s it. You’ll soon be putting in the zzzz’s instead of the mmmm’s!’ Getty Anandi has a number of accessible sleep solutions up her sleeve, including switching off screens at least an hour and a half before bed, breathing fully and boosting your melatonin levels, either through your diet or natural supplements (she suggests Utmost Me’s Neuro Rest). If you can’t quite bring yourself to subscribe to the ways of the bumblebee breath just yet, she also suggested a yoga pose called Viparita Karani, which takes the same amount of time to complete. ‘I recommend Viparita Karani, or legs up the wall, to nearly everyone as it has such a heavenly rejuvenating power and will bring you back to earth after all that running and rushing,’ she explained. ‘Everything will calm down including the mind and the nervous system. Stay there for 10 minutes as your bedtime prep!’ ‘It is a marvellous preparation to quiet everything down, that includes your mind, your nervous and circulatory system.’ We’ll try anything to get us a better night’s sleep!
