YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food M& S have combined two British teatime classics to launch the Chicken Pie-Ev By You Magazine - March 3, 2021 Is there anything better than tucking into a hearty pie on a cold winter’s day? Absolutely not and to mark British Pie Week this year (yes, there is such a thing), Marks & Spencer’s have combined two British teatime classics – the pie and the chicken kiev – to make a ‘Chicken Pie-Ev’. Forget the TikTok feta pasta trend, there’s a new food invention in town. So what does a ‘Pie-Ev’ consist of? Marks and Spencer M&S have created the epic hybrid of chicken in a creamy garlic butter sauce, topped with panko breadcrumbs, which sits inside a buttery shortcrust pastry case with a crunchy puff pastry lid. What’s not to like? The news of this invention comes 42 years after M&S launched the first-ever chilled prepared meal – the humble chicken kiev. It became an immediate bestseller and continues to be a family favourite all these years later, with five M&S chicken kievs being sold every minute. Marks and Spencer In fact, the chicken kiev was so popular that Marks & Spencer had to set up a new factory dedicated to producing it. Any chances of a ‘Pie-Ev’ factory popping up, you think? It’s no surprise to see that pies are another customer favourite for the retail giant with 275,000 of the pastry parcels selling every week. It’s wild to think that M&S almost didn’t create their chilled chicken kiev 42 years ago because they didn’t think the country was ‘ready for garlic’. Turns out, the UK was very ready for it. The popularity of the chicken dinner has meant M&S have tried, tested and launched newer versions of it too, including a vegan option. Ocado Now, the brand is the very first to combine a kiev with a pie. Bethany Jacobs, Marks & Spencer’s Pies Product Developer, said: ‘We all need a bit of comfort food at the moment and this pie is set to be the MUST-HAVE of the season.’ So when can you get your hands on this fascinating feast? The Gastropub Chicken Pie-Ev can be bought in a single portion size for £3.75, available at Marks and Spencer stores from 3 March. Delicious or disaster? We’ll let you decide!
