YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food The AirUp bottle is a TikTok craze – but is it any good By Emily Cleary - February 11, 2022 Did you hear the one about the bottle that made water taste good? No? Well we just did. The AirUp bottle is a revolutionary new way to hydrate if you’re bored of plain old H2o. Mild dehydration can affect mood, motivation and anxiety, as well as cause headaches. More severe hydration can strain kidneys, which flush out waste products in urine, and can quickly affect how efficiently the body functions. But armed with a selection of scented ‘pods’, AirUp users can explore a variety of favours without any additives or sugar getting involved. View this post on Instagram A post shared by air up (@airup) Tipped off by teens on Tik Tok, we tried an AirUp bottle and once we’d worked it out we were pleasantly surprised with the result. There’s an instruction leaflet in each box so it’s worth checking before you chuck as initial setup involves placing the pod in a particular position, and making sure the parts are all pushed together. Otherwise you can end up with water all over your face, which of course we didn’t… AirUp bottle and pods, £29.95 The bottle works by using the concept of retronasal smell – the technical term for the process of tasting with your nose. When you smell something, it passes through the throat to the olfactory centre in the nose and manifests in the brain as taste. And apparently 80% of the tastes you experience are actually things you are smelling. The amount of water we all should drink is very much dependent on the individual but one thing is for sure and that is that if you’re fed up of flavourless water but are still seeking a healthy way to hydrate, the AirUp could well be the buy for you. How to use the AirUp: Fill the bottle with regular water Fix the straw to the mouthpiece and pop it in the bottle. Fit the mouthpiece tightly into place, lining the teardrop shape with the 650ml marking. It’s worth testing it’s properly pushed in to avoid accidents as this part includes a foam-like material! Push the aroma pod onto the mouthpiece and away you go! Flavours range from lime to wild berries, kola to tangerine. Some smell sweeter than others but all are strong enough to trick you most of the time. From our experience the younger you are the more strongly you perceive the smells, which may well explain AirUps popularity with the TikTok generation!
