YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel The One Barcelona A sleek escape in the heart of the city By You Magazine - November 3, 2019 Known as ‘Gaudi’s Playground’, Barcelona is a jewel in the crown of Catalan modernisme – but if that’s not your thing, you can also take advantage of the city’s coastline, boasting sandy beaches, cafés and water sports. With its mix of modern art, architectural masterpieces and mouth-watering cuisine, Barcelona is an enchanting, multi-faceted city which serves up endless possibilities. Only a small stroll from one of Gaudi’s architectural marvels, Casa Mila, The One Barcelona is situated in the heart of the city. Our taxi pulled up outside and we were greeted by the concierge who courteously took our luggage and welcomed us in. The One Barcelona As the Interiors Coordinator at YOU Magazine, the decor is something that always catches my eye, and already it felt light and airy, sparkling clean with a minimalistic feel from the marble and wood furnishings. I was intrigued for what was to come. The One Barcelona features 88 elegant rooms and suites. We entered our Grand Deluxe Terrace Room, which was warm and welcoming. It was luxurious, sophisticated and sleek. As you walk in you are met with plush velvet sofas, a large marble table and a king size bed adorned with exclusive artwork by Fernando Prats, showing the beauty of a bird’s flight – simply beautiful. The One Barcelona Despite being located in the heart of the city, on stepping onto the terrace, the tall grasses blowing in the light breeze and comfy chair tucked into the corner, (perfect for snuggling up with a book) provided a peaceful, serene haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life below. After exploring every corner of our room, we had just enough time to unpack and get ready for our spa experience. The hotel hosts a sauna, heated pool, 24-hour gym and treatment rooms. We were greeted with wall-to-wall marble, offering an element of decadence, it was clean-lined and the low lighting made you feel instantly stress free. The One Barcelona The attentive therapists were there ready with a cool glass of water and a welcoming smile. I picked the Purifying facial from the extensive treatment list – 50 minutes of pure bliss. It started with a back massage, of which I chose my favourite lavender scent. You have time to talk to your therapist about pressure and points of interest, which made the massage personal to me. The facial was soothing and gentle to the skin, I felt radiant and revitalised. The One Barcelona We had dinner that evening in The One Barcelona’s ‘Mood rooftop bar’, located on the top-floor terrace, with impressive panoramic views of the city. To set the scene we had a table for two next to the swimming pool, with ambient lighting and fluffy throws to keep us warm through the light evening breeze. The One Barcelona For starters we had the Iberian ham, crystal bread with tomato and burrata. For mains we had octopus. To say we were impressed was an understatement, the food was exquisite. Everything was perfection on a plate. The staff were extremely friendly and conversant with the menu. We spent two nights at The One Barcelona, but we could’ve stayed all week. If you’re looking for a cosy, clean and chic hotel, with some of the world’s most amazing architecture on your doorstep, The One is the one for you. The One Barcelona What to do when you’ re in Barcelona If you want a more relaxed holiday, then enjoy the vast amount of world-class restaurants and beaches. If you want culture, this is the one place you’ll find an abundance of: I would recommend booking tickets to the likes of The Sagrada Familia and Parc Quell, turning up to ‘no tickets left’ is disappointing. There are plenty of great museums to get lost in, the beloved Picasso Museum or Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, featuring ‘a thousand years of art’. Take a jaunt down Barcelona’s sequence of promenades, ‘Las Ramblas’ being the main attraction, with live performances, artists and human statues. With 88 rooms (including 25 suites) and a privileged location, The One Barcelona is a 5* GL hotel. Entry level room rates start from 250 Euros, for more information please go to www.hotelstheone.com/en/barcelona/ or contact: [email protected] Norwegian Airlines is one of the largest low-cost carriers in the world, with a choice of around 500 routes to more than 150 destinations.
