YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel Take a dip in a ‘ whirlpool on the weir’ at The Runnymede on Thames By You Magazine - October 31, 2019 A stone’s throw from London, on the banks of the River Thames is The Runnymede; a contemporary four-star hotel that boasts the facilities of an English country club but operates with the warmth of a family owned establishment. Situated as it is, The Runnymede have made the utmost of the River Thames. In the summer months, the hotel’s very own Airstream trailer opens on the lawn to serve cocktails and, from April to October, you can hire a riverboat to take a day trip to neighboring Windsor. The highlight, however, is the aptly named ‘whirlpool by the weir’, an indulgent outdoor hot-tub on a private jetty by the Thames which can be enjoyed all year round, champagne in hand. Just recently redecorated, the rooms at The Runnymede are, like the rest of the hotel; cool, calm and contemporary. With king-size beds, dreamy ESPA toiletries and a choice of a riverside or leafy, courtyard view, this a true escape from London. Arrive hungry to The Runnymede because with three restaurants to choose from, you’re guaranteed to leave full. Visiting on a Sunday and with our eyes on the prize (a Sunday Roast), we opted for The Leftbank, the hotel’s interactive theatre-style kitchen. With a host of fresh salads, warm artisan bread and a Japanese robata-style grill, this is a meal of epic proportions. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert(s) either; the apple crumble with raspberry coulis and vanilla custard was the best we’ve ever had. The Leftbank also serves an award-winning breakfast menu. From locally sourced Surrey sausages, eggs cooked to order and artisan breads, the offering is a sight to behold. The Runnymede as a whole is deceptive in size and there is certainly more than meets the eye when it comes to the spa too. Awarded Guinot crown elite status, the spa boasts an indoor exercise pool, whirlpool, marble eucalyptus steam room and an infrared and pine sauna. We enjoyed the ESPA Aromatherapy Full Body Massage and, as requested, the therapist pulled no punches when it came to loosening the knots in our shoulders. Bliss. For something gentler, The Runnymede have just launched the ESPA Mindful Massage which promises to calm both mind and body with a soothing, rebalancing massage that ends with a re-energising scalp massage using warm Rose Quartz Crystals. After your treatment, make the most of the peaceful lounge where bi-fold doors open on to a private terrace that overlooks the tennis courts and outdoor pool. In walking proximity to the historic Magna Carta Memorial and family-friendly attractions such as Legoland Windsor, a visit to The Runnymede can be whatever you make it. Rooms are available at The Runnymede on Thames from £158.
