YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors This Christmas tree trend is predicted to be in everyone’ s homes this festive season By You Magazine - November 23, 2021 As Christmas traditions go, decorating the tree is generally one of people’s favourite festive moments. Whether you like to go traditional or novelty with your baubles, there are plenty of Christmas decorations out there to suit all tastes and styles. But besides baubles, there’s a new trend taking over the way we decorate our homes this festive season – and it’s to do with the actual tree itself. While previous years have seen perfectly full, conical and symmetrical artificial Christmas trees reign supreme, recently a new trend that celebrates the imperfectness of nature has been taking hold. Gone are the days of the perfect hotel lobby-style tree; instead, wave hello to a new Christmas tree trend that strives to emulate nature’s naturally imperfect, asymmetric and sparse style. Balsam Hill We all know that nature is never perfectly symmetrical in real life, so these imperfect faux Christmas trees actually look a whole lot more realistic than those that never have a branch out of place. ‘When it comes to artificial trees, asymmetrical and sparse trees are growing in popularity in the UK,’ Jen Derry from luxury artificial tree and decoration brand Balsam Hill told Ideal Home. ‘As with many things in nature, nothing is ever perfectly symmetrical, and the humble Christmas tree is no different.’ The trend chimes with our collective desire to strive for more authenticity – no longer do we want the most perfect-looking tree, now we want the most realistic-looking tree. Sparser branches, unruly foliage and jaunty angles all help to replicate a more authentic feel. It’s a great trend for those who love the look of a real Christmas tree, but can’t stand the maintenance they require (hello dropped needles and drooping branches before Christmas Eve!).
