YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity 7 things you might not know about Kate the Duchess of Cambridge By You Magazine - January 9, 2018 Since entering the public eye during the early days of her relationship with Prince William, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge has been a subject of fascination around the world. She’s instigated fashion trends, raised awareness of worthy causes and of course, become the world’s most famous bride (and subsequently, mother). However, there are a few stories about the Duchess of Cambridge which you may not already know… She s a record breaker When she tied the knot with Prince William in April 2011, aged 29, Kate became the oldest royal bride in British history. However, this coming spring her title will be taken by Prince Harry’s wife-to-be, American actress Meghan Markle, who will be 36 when her wedding takes place. Kate also has a 2:1 in Art History from her time at the University of St Andrews, which made her the first royal bride with a degree. Getty Images Her nickname when she was younger was ‘ Squeak’ Whilst paying a visit to her old school in Pangbourne, Berkshire, in 2012, Kate revealed that she was given the name ‘Squeak’ among her classmates – a moniker which was also given to the school guinea pig. ‘There was one called Pip and one called Squeak, so my sister was called Pip and I was Squeak,’ she explained during the appearance. The good news is, she’s not the only royal with an unusual nickname… She once lived in the Middle East Michael and Carole Middleton, Kate’s parents, are both former employees of British Airways, and so when the duchess was a child, she spent two years living in Amman, the capital of Jordan, which was the location of her father’s posting at the time. Kate, who was two when the family first made the move, attended a local nursery where pupils were taught in both Arabic and English, and ate traditional meals with items like hummus and labneh. A source told the Daily Mail that ‘Jordan was a very happy time for them all.’ Getty Images She’ s a Jo Malone devotee Kate’s signature scent is said to be famed British brand Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom candles – so much so that she had candles with the fragrance lit in Westminster Abbey on her wedding day. However, the actual perfume she chose for the occasion was White Gardenia Petals by Illumium, which promptly sold out shortly after it was confirmed that the duchess had worn it for her nuptials. Getty Images She’ s a qualified scuba diver Kate is famously very sporty, and has displayed her impressive skills by taking part in tennis, hockey and rowing during official engagements in the past – but did you know that she’s also a confident (and qualified) diver? According to a report from the Telegraph, Kate is able to dive a depth of 30 metres after gaining her Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Advanced Open Water Diver qualification, apparently in order to keep up with her husband, who is an experienced diver himself. Her favourite dessert is sticky toffee pudding Now this is a woman after our own hearts – a former chef at the Old Boot Inn in Stanford Dingley, a pub the Middleton family used to frequent, says that Kate’s favourite way to round off a meal is with none other than a good old-fashioned sticky toffee pudding. ‘Her favorite [dishes] are the pate on toasted brioche or the roast figs on parma ham with spicy apple chutney, followed by the tiger prawn and wild mushroom linguine,’ he told PEOPLE magazine in 2011. ‘And for the [dessert], her favorite is sticky toffee pudding. It’s moist and spongy.’ Getty Images She’ s a keen cook Kate and William met Mary Berry at an event in 2013, when William told the Great British Bake Off star that his wife had used her recipes – and it’s not just cakes that the duchess whips up in the kitchen. During an interview for ITV documentary The Queen at 90, Kate told the story of how she couldn’t decide what to give Queen Elizabeth II as a gift during their first Christmas together, but eventually plumped for a jar of homemade chutney. ‘I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table,’ she recalled. ‘I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me.’ RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
